We arrived at Elkmont without a reservation (impromptu stop in the National Park), and while the 2 rangers at the campground were friendly, they weren't able to assist us in obtaining a campsite in-person due to lack of internet connection in their office. We were told we needed to drive to a scenic overlook to get cell service and book online, and to avoid calling Recreation.gov because it would be faster/easier using the website. The booking process (lack of ability to reserve a site in-person) was the only downside to our stay at Elkmont. A camper checking in before me had to return and ask for a new site, as the online reservation system had double booked the space he'd chosen. Per the rangers, this double-booking issue happens often with Recreation.gov. The campsite was very nice, the restrooms were clean, and everyone respected quiet hours, which made for a pleasant sleeping experience. The rangers in the Welcome Center and Sugarlands Visitor Center were very helpful and knowlegable. We would love to visit again in the future, staying longer and exploring the forest properly.

Clean campground with some nice activities but amenities are seriously needed. No cell service, no WiFi, no electricity, water or dump station. There is a water and dump spot but its 6 miles east. We came in from a different direction and missed it completely. The surround area is beautiful but be prepared to rough it.

Our first stay inside a national park did not disappoint. Unspoiled, unmatched beauty, very friendly helpful park ranger Dexter at Sugarlands Visitor Center, pristine campsite—can’t wait to return for more hiking!

We were just there one day so I could be wrong, but I didn’t see any program offered when we were there. I alway enjoy learning more about the park.

Always a great campground experience here. The restrooms being closed is a little inconvenient but a small price to pay to get the waste water system upgraded. Hosts and Park staff were friendly and nice. Have had bad experiences in the past with the hosts just being plain mean. But, not the case this trip. And did I mention the awesome Little River that flows through the campground? This is what makes this place magical and why we keep coming back almost every year!

We have been tent camping at Elkmont for years and always have a good time. We finally got to see the synchronous fireflies of Elkmont, and it was a treat. We were camping as a family and wanted to get campsites closer together. The staff worked to accomplish that.

Can't wait to come back when work on water/sewer is fixed! The park managed this problem WELL while they are renovating!
Always amazing staff & volunteers. Ask& learn wherever you go!
Do not park or pitch a tent except in CLEARLY DESIGNATED areas to preserve understory growth, biodiversity & to prevent deterioration from overuse.
The noise from generators is a newer phenomenon. There are more generators now. There is a noise curfew @ 10 pm. Respect your neighbors. The quiet is part of the beauty and the beauty is everywhere.
