Stayed at site D-10 and loved it! We have a 30' Airstream and the site was perfect. The short roads in between the loop are quiet and nice for kids to ride bikes. Site was a bit close to the neighbors behind us but on the curb side of the camper is lots of trees and a long distance to the next camp site. Even though we were not by the water the kids were able to find plenty of places to get in the stream at campsites that were not being used or other areas they could find. We saw the fireflies and made many day trips/hikes in the park. It is a short walk to watch the fireflies and it is a must do! Great campground location to do many things! Be prepared to keep your camp items contained there is a large bear presence; the first night we were there they caught a 400+ pound bear that had been coming into the camp. It is so nice to know the rangers are monitoring things and being proactive to keep campers and the bears safe!

Visitors should be encouraged to arrive prior to nightfall. Because I-75 was shut down due to a fatal accident, and missing the info about not bringing an RV across ?Wear's Valley road, we arrived after dark. The "hurricane relief" people at Sugarlands could NOT direct us to the water supply. Once we arrived, due to large boulders lining the driveway, we could not get into our site. The wonderful camp hosts found us another site and helped us get there. Once set up, Elkmont was nice. Beautiful creek, quiet, walking trails from the campground. The campground itself is nice as long as you have a site level enough for your particular RV or are using a tent.

We loved staying at Elkmont Campground, it was so convenient to stay inside the National Park and not have a long drive. Although there were many bathroom facilities, they were all pretty disgusting. If I had a broom and cleaning supplies with me in my tent, those bathrooms would have gotten a thorough cleaning. I also supplied the bathroom closest to me with hand soap. For $30.00 per night, a clean bathroom would have been appreciated.

Campground is beautiful and we had a nice stay. Sites are level and not too close to neighbors. Access to water for rvs is an issue. Water is available in campground but for some reason you are not allowed to use hoses to fill your tank. The only place to get water for rvs is at the dump station several miles from campground. It is past Sugarland visitor center and poorly marked (sign very small) we would have passed it if we had not read about it online. The driveway to dump station is very narrow and steep. Not very trailer/rv friendly. Also if you are leaving when someone is entering it would be a problem. Since driveway is so narrow someone would have to back up to let other pass. This is the most visited National Park in US. It should be more user friendly.

Sorry, I can't say that it was our best camping experience. The site was Ok and we appreciated the fact that we could use our generator if we wanted or needed to. However, the lay out of the campgrounds was weird and it didn't help that the closest bathrooms were closed. For someone with bad knees that was a real inconvenience considering I especially reserved that site so I was closer the the bathrooms. Oh, well, life goes on.

Campground was beautiful. Although bathrooms were out of order, the campground accommodated us with porta potties that seemed to be cleaned and emptied every other day. We stayed for a week and had a very memorable trip. Deb the volunteer Park Ranger was extremely kind and helpful.

PROS: - I love GSMNP. I love Elkmont Campground. The people are great. Everyone is friendly and having a good time. The camping space was awesome. We visited for the Synchronous Firefly Event and that was really something.
CONS: The website needs to be updated. The website said the camp store was open with ice, firewood and general supplies. The camp store was CLOSED - as in locked up and had not been open in a very long time. The website said the bathrooms were only going to be open a few hours each morning and evening. The bathrooms were CLOSED all day and all night. There were plenty of Port-a-Potties, that were pumped and cleaned each day. The Gatlinburg Trolley NO LONGER visits Elkmont Campground - I assume because of Covid-19. I should have researched that a bit more. The pay phone that we have used in past years is no longer there. In summary, since we did not have a car, we were pretty much stuck. We had to pull up the RV and go to Pigeon Forge for ice and firewood. So if you are in that situation (no car), get your firewood and ice before you get to the campground and make sure to have completed all of your electronic communications and coordination.
