Lovely, roomy, corner spot with dual access for those on motorcycles. Downside is that the nearest bear box is a long walk away.

Elkmont has always been my family's favorite campground.

We needed to buy ice from camp store. Twice, it was closed when it should have been open during normal posted hours on Monday the 7th and maybe on Tuesday the 8th. Lady working there seemed some what upset when I got to the window and I had to wait on her to count all the money in the middle of the day ? We camp at Elmont every year. I wish there was a dump station with water for RVs on site. Biggest complaint on this trip is the extremely poor condition of the roads in the actual campground. Worst I've every seen it . I've been camping at Elkmont for my most of my life. I am a senior life time pass holder. Most disappointing visit ever. I hope thing will improve soon.

This was a beautiful campsite. We booked well in advance because it seems to fill up fast. The campgrounds were very clean and quiet, situtated along a beautiful river. There were bathroom facilities but no showers and no service, so make sure to have a map or instructions written down ahead of time. It is an amazing location, about 10 minutes from touristy Gatlinburg and 20-30 from some amazing hiking trails. Laurel Falls is 5 minutes down the road, but get there at 7am to avoid the crowd. We recommend Rainbow Falls trail which was about 25 minutes away from campsite. We also enjoyed tubing with RiverRat which was about 25-30 minutes away.

Beautiful campground. Wish we would have had a river site! Electric hookups would be great so we dont have generator noise pollution.

This is a beautiful location as it always has been. NPS staff was friendly and efficient with the check-in process. While we appreciate the natural environment, it's time for some infrastructure updates. Roads throughout the area could use some maintenance. Campground store is very limited. Campsites could be maintained to be a bit more RV- friendly, though we had no issues with our small RV. Water hydrants could be located to be accessible to RVs, with threads to attach a hose for filling water tanks. One dump station for the entire national park is less than optimal.

Campsite didnt drain, lots of mud from previous rain. Tall weeds everywhere. Too many vacant campsites, restructure reservations signup portion of website.

Camped here in March so only part of the campground was open. The sites were beautiful in the trees and spaced nicely apart. The bathroom was not heated and the water was cold but we were glad they were available. The bathrooms were very clean. The host was friendly and registration was easy. Nearby hiking along the river was beautiful! We did not use the store which was a vending machine area. Fire wood and ice were available as well as a few sweatshirts. We would camp here again if in the area.

Great campground and great location, fairly central to all things in the GSMNP. The campground has a river running through the middle of it, dividing two sections of the campground. The river is great for fishing, swimming and the sound at night is great to fall asleep to. I would recommend removing a couple sites from the riverside in order to provide more convenient access to the river for those who don't have a campsite right on the river. Campsites are fairly large and well-spaced so you generally don't feel like you are right on top of other campers. The campground accommodates both tents and RV's. No electric service is provided so, consequently, there is a constant drone of generators feeding the needs of those who cannot live for a week without their TV, internet or floodlights, which is disruptive to the peaceful quiet that people seek when getting outdoors (as well as the fumes) - fortunately there is a curfew on how late the generators can run in the evening...Restroom facilities are clean, well maintained and conveniently located throughout the campground. The dishwashing areas could be improved - they need to have lighting and doors to keep them cleaner and more practical after dark.Modest campground store that provides firewood, ice and some very basic supplies.Great access to hiking trails along the Little River and Jake's Creek, as well as the Elkmont historic area of the "Daisy Town" summer home community dating back to the 1910's. The cabins and cottages are being restored and are worth walking through for an hour or two...Elkmont campground is a great place to relax, enjoy the park and meet a lot of great people. The NPS staff members I met were great - very knowledgeable and friendly. At night the skies are dark for stargazing. Much quieter and more relaxing than the Cades Cove campground which feels busier due to all the traffic going through the Cove...

Awesome weekend, campground was well kept and quiet. Close to main attractions in the park including top hikes to Mt. LeConte and Charlie's Bunion. 15 minutes to Gatlinburg, 45 minutes to Cades Cove. Very convenient.

Beautiful park and campground with creeks and rivers running through it. We stayed just before fireflies and got to see them. Amazing!

Quiet, well-maintained, gorgeous location with old-growth trees and the river. I was very pleased they added a soap dispenser in the bathrooms!

Sites were well spaced out. Good hiking trails from the campground. Nowhere to bike. Nowhere to dump or fill up water (had to drive to visitors' center for that). No powered sites, no showers or laundry.

Had awesome time at Elkmont campground. Out of 7 campgrounds we stayed at this trip Elkmont was" Number1."
The natural beauty is breathtaking. Got lovely pics. The cabins we hiked to are almost complete. Construction workers done excellent job on them. We enjoyed the history of them. Saw momma bear along with 3 babies at Cades Cove which is nice drive to. Plan to do more hiking when return in spring. A few suggestions, electricity at some sites would be a welcome comfort or allow generator use during nights. It gets pretty cold with no heat in trailer. Also guided hikes on trails with Ranger, naturalist, or camper hosts would be fun. See all next year. Keep up good work.

Very nice, quiet campground. Restrooms out of order and I'm not mad because they told me before I paid and the port-a-potties were spotless clean and there was pumped-fresh water for washing. So not a bad situation considering they were fixing the bathrooms.

I'm not a big fan of Recreation.gov because of the mixed results you can get trying to reserve online. It just seems like there is a disconnect between actual vacancies and sites. I'm just guessing but since the price is so low people book for a week online 6 months in advance and then don't show. The space sits vacant for the entire week. Also the signs out front that say "campground full" may or may not be accurate.

My best advice is to book online EARLY. The campgrounds themselves are wonderful.

Overall a really great experience. The tree cover kept the sight cool in comparison to the heat on some of the trails. A few cons tho- I read up on the site and didn’t see anywhere that the restrooms were closed and that there were portapotties due to a sewage issue so prep for that it wasn’t a big deal for us. Pretty quiet both nights (one car alarm went off in the night but otherwise very quiet) good sites and 0 service

This campground in the Smokies was very nice. It was pretty centrally located for going to a variety of places throughout the park. Even though the campground was pretty full, it was quiet and relaxing. The sound of the creek running through the campground helped drown out quiet "people" noises. When we were there, they were doing work on the sewers, so the bathrooms were closed but they had let us know in advance and had plenty of port-a-potties that were clean for us to use.

Elkmont is usually a great place to camp and we will definetely return. They are having problems with their waste water treatment and had portable toilets which was a disappointment.

When I was there they were repaving the road into the campground. This inconvenience greatly impacted the purpose for me going there. The smell of the asphalt was clearly noticed. (Not exactly the smell of nature)Staff in the campground office were not too friendly.Additionally some hindrance in traveling due to the roadwork added to the disappointment. I did not push the issue but was disappointed that I could not keep my lockable cooler out at the site (this was new to me). Though I realize this could be due to new bear issues I have stayed there several times in the past and found it most peaceful and enjoyable. That was not the case this time.
