We visited the Smokies the week of April 14 and spent 5 nights at Elkmont site D6. It was gorgeous! All outer edge sites are good. The best seems to be F6, though I didn't cross to the other side of the river. E sites on the water (those 5 or 6 away from D6) and F sites on the water are better for younger campers because you can get out on little rock beaches. D6 was better for seeing not putting your feet in. The camp hosts were great, the bathroom was clean, and we thoroughly enjoyed though the crowds at the trail parking "lots" made early mornings necessary!

We loved it. We stayed right on the river and its within walking distance of trails and short driving distance of a beautiful waterfall. Highly recommend

Elkmont Campground is my favorite place to camp. It's the farthest from my house in metro Atlanta but it's worth the drive, we've been going there for decades.

Elkmont is one of our favorite campgrounds. We especially enjoy the beautiful, tall trees we describe as God's cathedral.

Absolutely love, love, love camping at Elkmont Campground. We prefer to get riverside sites for less campground noise. However, we will take any site that we can get. I have a disability so I prefer accessible sites. But, once again I can use any site that is fairly level. We have been camping at Elkmont nearly every year for the past 25 years. We've stayed as few as 1 night to as many as 14 nights. We have also been blessed to be able to camp there twice a year many times. My daughter says that my soul belongs there. There is a small camp store where you can get those things that you forgot plus wood and ice. Anyone who does not have to have all the commercial campground amenities will enjoy Elkmont quite a bit. As I said, we love it.

As of May 2021 the bathrooms were still closed. There was nothing in my reservation that prepared me for porta-potties and no running water - this was disappointing. I have no idea how one would know when the bathrooms will be open again, but be warned it didn't seem to be a short term situation.

Other than that, the location is beautiful. Sites are close together, but not uncomfortably so.

Our site along the river was wonderful. The bathroom facilities were closed due to COVID, but the porta potties were ok. The ranger staff was helpful and kind.
