Weve stayed at Elkmont two years in a row and its always great. The park rangers are very friendly and helpful, and the sites are very peaceful.

Check-in was very efficient, campgrounds well kept. Carefully select your site if you want privacy and remember several loops are generator free. Older bathrooms, but clean. Firewood was more expensive than normal NP pricing. Lots of hiking and fishing close by, but popular trails are crowded and parking is difficult without a longer walk to the trailhead much after 8:00am. Real disappointment was RV dump station across from Sugarland's Visitor Center. Only one dump station for entire eastern side of park with only one flush hose without a threaded connector - pretty much useless for cleaning black tank after dumping. There is one separate fresh water bib about 40 ft past dump station. Consider using Smokemont campground on other side of pass and watch a great elk rut in early and mid-September.

Nice campground, lots of nice hiking and don't miss the old Elkmont just south of the campground. The only downside is that some people don't respect the generator hours and there are no patrols to enforce the hours.

The campsite is well maintained and accessible, quite open in format with little vegetation between you and other campers. Only thing that could make it better- showers.

What a lovely escape! It would've been nice to have the bathrooms open, but the port-a-potties were very clean and sanitary. It was a great location for a variety of hikes. The different spiders added to the spooky season in a perfect way! Would definitely camp here again.

Campsites were very close and not as pictured on map. The rangers were very nitpicky and although the website stated the restrooms would be open a few hours in the morning and evening, it was closed the entire time. I do not recommend nor would I stay there again.
