We LOVE Elkmont! The natural beauty makes this campground our #1 choice for a weekend getaway. If I had any suggestion it would be to please equip all restrooms with soap, seems like a simple fix, and considering worldwide hygiene concerns, I'm a little surprised it's not a regulation. I'd also suggest more attention to filling potholes, riding bikes is a favorite daily activity, and some of the holes are huge and dangerous. Otherwise, Elkmont Campground is amazing!!

Excellent staff of the National Park Service.

I was charged $10. Fee by your agent on the phone when I modified the reservation. Now, when I read your site, it says no charge for modifications but she cancelled and rebooked it instead of just changing site number. I am owed $10. Back

Check in was easy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Happy that ice and wood available on honor system when store not open. With staff making rounds frequently, we felt safe (with bear sightings nearby this trip). Fireflies were awesome as usual during our stay.

We always enjoy our visit to Elkmont. We were a little surprised that the grounds were over grown and not maintained as in our prior visits.

Nice and clean campground. Rangers and camp staff were very nice. Will absolutely camp here again!

Was not notified about the sewer services being out in the campground in advance. When asking ranger staff about how we were to proceed in washing hands, brushing teeth, cleaning dishes etc. I was met with disdain and defensiveness. Was told I was notified a d I had to check a box. I was not there to argue that poi t but to get guidance on how to proceed. Portable toilets were gross and constantly running out of toilet paper, even though they were cleaned regularly they were left soaking wet from the cleaning. Have stayed at park campgrounds for the past 9 years including during the pandemic and this was by far the worst experience. When we returned home I searched my email for notifications of the sewer problems and I couldn’t find one. When in a tent, with three small children, having to go to a portable toilet at night with no lights other than your flashlight and nowhere to place it while you do your business or not having the room to assist a small child in one was truly an inconvenience. I have backpacked in the back country where a portable toilet would be a luxury, but the wash houses are why we choose to stay front country while our children are young. Also, bear boxes need to be placed at each site. Having to store all good and cooking gear inside of our hardwired vehicles is fine, but if there was an emergency with an animal, or weather, quick retreat to ones vehicle is not possible. Would have to remove many items to gain access. Normally would not have worried about it because we could retreat to the bath house, but they were locked down for the sewer problem. Also the campground was just unkempt basic grounds keeping was the worst we have seen in 4 plus years of staying at elkmont.

Water reclamation system was under construction so we had Porto-potties instead of restrooms with running water. Dish washing station was still available. Lovely campground, sites are large and spread out nicely.

Elkmont Campground is a beautiful forest setting with spacious, well separated, level sites. While there are no hookups, potable water spigots and toilets are well situated throughout the campground. Forest trails of all lengths and difficulty levels are available in and adjacent to the campground.

The park was beautiful and the sites allow for plenty of privacy. Unfortunately, the bathrooms were down, and is why the park didn’t get and excellent rating. Also....downtown gatlenburg is a nightmare.
