Typically my frequent stays t Elkmont are pleasant and enjoyable in a quiet campground. However, this trip was cut short because someone decided to bring their dog who barked well into the night and before the sun rose the next morning. Not once did the owners try to hush the dog. Not once! Then the following day, while trying to relax by the river at my campsite, the dog barked at EVERYTHING and still not asked to hush. I finally gave up about 2:30p.m. and packed to leave. It was obvious that another night of this barking dog would not be peaceful. Why do people not understand that we go camping to enjoy nature and the peacefulness?

Fireflies were wonderful as always. Campsites by water are the best (weather permitting).

Incredible site right near the rivers edge. After a big rain, water level rose ~2 feet but we were still perfectly safe. Absolutely beautiful campground.

Our site at B3 was one of the most beautiful campsites Ive ever had the pleasure of staying at. The river front view is unmatched and sleeping to the sound of rushing water is soothing. The forest around you feels like a warm, giant hug. 10/10 WILL do again

Gorgeous property not far from Gatlinburg. Be sure to book a riverfront site early, as they fill rapidly.

walk-in sites are easily accessible from parking area- only negative is that you have to walk through another campsite to get in/out. beautiful setting right by the creek

The trip was very good. The park staff were great, the campsite was clean and cared for. The restrooms were clean and assessible. As with all trips to the Smokey Mts., there is the expectation of rain....and rain it did...the entire time. We are used to that though and will be back.

Hammock campers beware. Last Time I was here was back in 2014 and it was very pleasant. The rules also were very in line with big Meadows and other parks I’ve been to. However this year it felt like Rangers were walking through my camp every hour giving me a different story on how my hammock is supposed to be hung. So invest in a tensa if you are a hammock camper and want to come to elkmont. The rules listed here on hammocks are not accurate and you’ll be told to take down your hammock.

I cannot overstate what a wonderful experience we had at Elkmont this year. It was our second time at the campground and this year, we got a riverside site! B03 was the perfect site. Campfire ring looked out over the river. Secluded woods across from the site where we spotted an owl on a couple of nights. We missed the bathrooms a little bit, but the porta-potties were kept very clean and there were hand washing stations with soap. We definitely missed the camp store. Our car was full on the way so we had planned to grab some firewood there. I failed to read the email about the store being closed so just be aware.
We love Elkmont because it’s central to all the sites in the Smoky’s with the exception of Cades Cove, which is a little bit of a hall. We hiked Allum Cave Bluff (beautiful trail. Start early to avoid crowds). We love finding different places along the river to explore. Gatlinburg is close and so we get donuts from the Donut Friar on our last morning.
We will be back next year! Crossing my fingers that I cam snag another riverside site at the 6 month mark.

Restroom facilities were all closed. Only temporary portapotties were available. Camp store was closed. There was no advance notification provided to those of us who had reservations, I had to drive back to Gatlinburg to get firewood and water. I could have gotten everything before leaving Gatlinburg if I had known.
