The campground was nice. Not one of the most well kept (potholes, unmowed) but perfect to see the fireflies. Our rig fit just fine. We had a 26 foot trailer and 6 1/2 box with crew cab truck. I would however, not choose a site in A (we were in A24) as it was quite a walk down to F to Jakes Trail (especially in the dark after viewing the fireflies). GPS too was a problem. It seemed no matter where we were it wanted to route us through the town of Townsend and trailers cannot go that way. Wait until you get into Pigeon Forge until seeking directions to Elkmont.

Elkmont is an awesome campground for visiting the Smokies! It's big, clean and I love the river running through it. I was there for the fireflies in July and the rangers did a great job of organizing everything so people could enjoy the light show. Great job National Parks Service!

Beautiful drive to the site, same is true for the campground. It was very quiet at night except for the faint bubblig sounds from the small creek. FYI, there was no cell service--I have Verizon.

We arrived the second day Elkmont was open for 2024. We had a great time even though it was VERY chilly at nights (25F). We didn't think to get more firewood from the common store on site before it closed, however, since we had cash, we could pick up a bundle on honor system and submit our cash in an envelope and drop box - THANK YOU! There are a few trailheads very close to the campsite, but the more popular ones are a short, and beautiful drive away. Sites are fairly small and close, but that's okay, we don't need a ton of room. Only a few sections of the campground were open yet, so we didn't have any trouble with noise. The river running through the campground acted like white noise and was very peaceful. Reminder: No showers. Plan to either make your own, or do without. Water in the bathroom facuets will be very cold. The dishwashing areas were very nice and kept your food scraps and cleaning residue away from your site to prevent bears and other animals from being nosey. Rangers are on site and very help helpful. They also made quiet rounds at night for security. Easy access to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge if you need to run into town (our coffee percolator handle broke off the first day - REI in Pigeon Forge was a blessing!). We'll be back!

Beautiful well managed campground. There is access to several great trails and fishing without having to get in your car.

Quiet, well maintained campground. Great spots on the stream with good fishing. Convenient location for hiking, fishing, and enjoying the NP. Go to place for a quick getaway.

The campground is well located as a jumping off point for all areas of Great Smoky Mountains National Park while still being far enough away from the spots that get really congested.

Be sure to bring everything with you. I forgot a few things from the grocery store and the closest grocery store is about 45 minutes away. Make sure you have plenty of flashlights/batteries.

I was quite disappointed that the showers and restrooms were closed. It seemed that the porta potties are less clean and more confined than the restrooms and showers would be. I also arrived late and left early in very damp conditions, so it was a depressing stay. Certanly not all the parks fault.
