Its close to being a third world country. Ill kept and ill maintained. I would nominate it for one of the worst in the NPS system.

Campground hosts and staff were incredible. They were friendly, helpful and able to answer all sorts of random questions. Restrooms were cleaned daily. The rangers were especially helpful, especially with all the firefly viewing traffic. We love this campground for the calm, the river, the history and the trails.

Beautiful, clean front-country campground! Lots of towering trees and shade. Great place to use as a base camp for Great Smokies day hikes or better yet - relax and enjoy a campfire before kicking off a backpacking adventure or do the same to decompress after one (if not both!)

Elkmont is a lovely campground (even in the rain ;-) and we really enjoyed the Wildflower Pilgrimage events. There was a beautiful hike that you could walk to from the back of the campground, as well as many other wonderful hikes nearby. Elkmont is as "centrally located" as you can get!

My first camping trip was with my brother in the early 90's...he has camped at Elkmont since the 1980's, not sure of exact dates...I have told many of my friends that Elkmont is my favorite of all. My son was with me this year in June......he loved it........all the camp host are nice and very helpful, appreciate what they do to keep us safe. The rangers are wonderful too.....I am a senior so I really don't care much for going to gatlinburg, but we do go to pigeon forge to shop for groceries prn......other than that, we just love to stay at the campground....thanks to all for keeping us safe.........my next trip will be July 23 this year

Functionally, it was fine. It would only be cosmetic, but can the bathrooms not be scraped and painted? They just look dirty due to the peeling paint. I think it's been 10 years.

I very much enjoyed my 2-night stay at Elkmont campground. It was quiet at night and it is not too far from Gatlinburg if you need something in town.

My stay at Elkmont was pleasant. The campsite amenities were as-expected, including substantial shade. The campsite was reasonably close to both a dumpster and a restroom building (and water) without being so close that their use by others disrupted my stay. Being located in a loop that did not allow generators made the stay more pleasant. The location afforded good access to the Little River Trail. I walked several miles of this directly from the campground by walking to the end of the campground and across the bridge on the road. I spent an entire day hiking without getting in the car!

We were in A21 with our 26 ft trailer. It was a great spot and fit our rig and truck just fine. The bathroom and dishwashing stations were well kept. They have a small store there on site and the rangers were nice and helpful when we checked in. We had found out about this campground from KDY, YouTubers, and they had mentioned there was a certain way you wanted to avoid getting towing a trailer. I noticed on the website when we book they had also given detailed Information about coming in from Gatlinburg or Townsend entrances, it was reiterated on the confirmation email as well. The roads are very narrow and curvy so if you are towing you want to make sure to check your maps and GPS.

Nice and quiet with no generators on loop A. Large site with lots of trees. Not real great for solar charging however.

The campground loop roads could really use some repairs, as there are some massive pot holes. (I had to negotiate some to back my camper, and I observed one lady fall into one, and one take out a kid on a bicycle.) As the area is a watershed, expect slick mud in the campsites, and even very deep mud in some of the lower sites, but at least the tent pads are raised. There were plenty of park staff and rangers patrolling the campground during the day, but not at night, which would have been nice for enforcement of quiet hours and food storage. This is a very popular campground, and even though the campground signs and reservation system will indicate that the campground is full, there will be many empty sites. Not that I mind a less crowded campground, but most of those sites left empty are the nicer and waterside sites. Which I suspect people are reserving in advance of their intended stay, without intension of occupying them every night, just so that they can be assured to have a prime spot when they finally arrive. Even though the 'rules' indicate that sites need to be occupied from the first night of the reservation, this obviously goes unchecked and not enforced.

I would have given 5 stars if the restrooms had been cleaner. They were just OK. Also, there plumbing problems in the women's restroom.

Rangers were super friendly and very helpful to me and my buddies, additionally, having the little convenient store was clutch for firewood and other small things we forgot to bring.

This was our first visit to the Smokey Mt. We really enjoyed our 2 night stay there. Wild turkeys came through camp daily and we watched a spider build a beautiful web between 2 trees. Only one drawback was the lack of signage to find our campground. We didnt have a map and no gps so it took us awhile to figure it out.
