I loved my campsite and it was a wonderful night. Please bring back the soap in the restrooms. I have heard multiple people wonder why there is not soap with the increased funding and camping fees. Also, we hardly camp at Elkmont anymore because it has the rule that you have to go and check in before 8:30 am or you may forfeit your campsite. A lot of times we dont get there until late at night and we need to hike very early in the morning to avoid the heat and crowds - so wedont want to worry about losing the campsite because we failed to check in. We shouldnt be forced to wait to hike until 9 am when we like to go way earlier. A lot of the other campgrounds just trust you and dont force you to check in. At minimum, I suggest removing the language about forfeiting the campsite if you dont check in by 8:30. I think it should be presumed you are there legitimately unless you see a tent where there is not a reservation or someone reports someone is on the site that is supposed to be theirs.

Very nice campground with ample space between the tent campsites. Appreciate the dishwashing sink by the restrooms, as well as good upkeep of the restrooms. Extra perk of this campsite is that it is closest to the synchronous fireflies! Only downside is that the little general store always seems to be closed when you need it.

This is a beautiful campground, but all the sites are way too close together with no small bushes or visual privacy. Thankfully the river and streams and sound of rushing water do provide auditory privacy; the sound of water drowns out and covers up the sound of people talking. The bathrooms (toilets and sinks) were clean and maintained daily. No cell service; which I see as a positive! Great access to hiking trails without having to drive. Most of the sites are the same; the biggest thing you should look for when booking is getting a site next to the river. There are a few really bad sites in the interior of the loops that are out in the open, next to bathhouses, with no tree cover. We had site A-7, which is theoretically walk-in, but even the walk-ins are only a few steps to your car and close to all the other sites.

This is one of the best campground sites weve experienced. It was perfect for our family! The real standout is the small creek that runs directly adjacent to the site. When we stayed, it was gently but constantly moving and was only a few inches deep. Our children absolutely loved wading in the water and playing on the rocks! This site has very good access directly to the water, whereas the walk in sites further up (A9, A11) have steep, more limited access. We also very much appreciated the platform for our tent, and good tree space for a hammock. It is closely connected with site A05, and would make a great pair of sites for groups traveling together. Logistically, the site was very convenient. The walk down from the parking space was broad and not too far. The location is also near the small camp shop and the bathrooms.Elkmont campground is very well located in GSMNP centrally placed between many different sites, and close to Gatlinburg. Its also a large campground, and the sites are overall quite close together. Loops A & B are generator-free, and there is a larger river flowing along one side of this campground section. The benefit is that we ended up hearing a lot of river sound, which actually sort of drowned out the other inevitable noises that come with a large, busy, campground. It made us feel like we were camping more remotely than the reality. We really loved our stay, and are already planning a return trip!

Quiet, nature, creek - best camping I've been this year. Disadvantage: lack of showers.

Not so great......having camped here before and enjoyed it we were pretty disappointed. I was prepared to not have showers, but no toilets or bathrooms other than outhouses were horrid. They were gross and smelly. A tree fell on our eating tent, fortunately, no one was in it when it happened. After that was destroyed we had no dry area to eat and there was lots of rain. I love the beauty of this place, but bathrooms, showers, and maybe some picnic pavilions would make it so much nicer. Pretty sure we've camped there for our last time.
