Cades Cove Campground is great. Group bath house smelled of urine and had dried body fluids on the floor. Its time to start limiting the number of people that are allowed to go around the loop at one time. People will not adhere to the pull over rules to prevent traffic jams. Love this place but it can be very stressful and un enjoyable because of the overcrowding and bad manners of society. Love the campground, its a world unto itself.

I did not listen to the warnings about the generator loop thinking it would not be that distracting. It was terrible. Felt like a trailer park during a hurricane. I cannot believe the park system would allow generators in any camping loop. Do all you can to stay as far away from B loop as you can. Ruined the experience of camping. Cades of course was beautiful.

The location is excellent. The site we had was way too close to the next site. I've camped at many national parks. The fundamental problem at all of them is mixing trailers and tent campers. Trailers typically make much more noise, especially with generators. This time we had a very noisy tenting neighbor across the road who was "banging away" at midnight. The Park has many access roads so there are no gates and no fees to enter. This adds to the noise. We had very loud motorcycles coming through at midnight. We have consistently found bathrooms at national parks needing upgrades. These were relatively clean but the two sinks were way too close to each other. Of course, there are no showers in this Park or others we've visited.

Cades Cove is full of history, scenery and a few bears. The resurfacing of the one-way road made for an easier bike ride, although it was still crowded with cars. The campground was nice, but bare bones. Nice to have indoor plumbing complete with cob webs, electric lights don't come on in the restrooms until late at night, so be sure to have your flash light. Cold water only. For one night it was doable.

Great experience, despite heavy rains for two out of three days (early May) and electrical storm with high winds. The gravel road to Cataloochie is terrifying and IMHO not worth the trip. NPS staff knowledgeable, professional and helpful, and staff in camp store very nice. Fellow campers without exception friendly and easy to get along with. Nearby Townsend provides all necessary creature comforts. I especially loved the old log cabins and other buildings around the loop road, as well as the wildflowers and other flora. Bear and elk in abundance, and most people were respectful and kept their distance, but there are always the crazies who seem to think it is Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
