We loved our stay for this trip. If you don't mind the long drive to the Cove every time you need something from town. If you plan on just staying in Cades Cove and not going anywhere else it will be perfect for you.

Nice campsite, clean restroom a short walk away. Cades Cove is a must see destination in the Smokies. If you have any flexibility on when to visit, I recommend doing it outside the most crowded seasons. During the week in April, May before Memorial Day and September after Labor Day are my favorite times to visit. Crowds are much smaller than summer or fall color season (particularly Monday through Friday), so you don't run into nearly as many "bear jams" along the Loop Road where traffic backs up. The trees and flowers are in bloom from mid April into early May. Wildlife is active, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon on sunny days and all day on cloudy/drizzly days. If you're a hiker, I recommend the 5 mile round trip hike to beautiful Abrams Falls. Another reason to see Cades Cove very early in the morning, in addition to more wildlife and smaller crowds, is that it is when the cove is most scenic with beautiful light and often with early morning fog.

One other area of the park that is only about 7 miles from Cades Cove and is usually not crowded is the Tremont area. There is a beautiful drive on a gravel road alongside a river with beautiful scenic spots along the way. There is a lovely easy hike along a river to multiple waterfalls from the parking area at the end of the road. There is also a hike from behind the visitor's center at the Tremont Institute to Spruce Flat Falls, that is at the low end of moderate difficulty and about a mile each way.

One thing to be aware of when visiting Cades Cove is that on Wednesdays from May through September, the Loop Road is closed to motor vehicles until noon. It can be accessed on those mornings only via bicycles and by walking. If you travel with bikes or want to rent one, those are good days to bike the loop and enjoy the park without the crowds and without having to worry about cars and exhaust fumes.

Overall good experience, bathrooms were near which is nice. Driving from newfound gap to cades cove at night is a bit dangerous and a lot of traffic at 6pm.
