Gorgeous campground. Be aware that the last mile on Abrams Creek Rd is a very narrow. We were towing a small trailer and came across a large pickup hauling a boat, and it took us almost 30 minutes to be able to go through. Any way, it was worth it.

The campground itself is pretty nice. The creek is clear and beautiful. The campsites are close together but were never fully occupied. You don't have to deal with RVs or early morning garbage trucks like the bigger campgrounds. A ranger emptied the trash by hand every morning. The skies are dark and stars easy to see. However, this campground is pretty remote and it feels like it. The final road into the site is a one-lane road with few places to pull over for oncoming traffic. A couple of trips had a tree limb over the road that needed to be moved. On one occasion, dogs from a nearby house were on the road. If you need something, you're looking at a 30 minute trip to Maryville on winding (but well maintained) roads. Going to other parts of the park required a twisty road climb to Look Rock to get to the Foothills Parkway. We never saw the ranger station occupied, and there was no way to check in and record what site we were staying at.

Abrams Creek Campground was beautiful and peaceful. The sound of the rushing river made it feel like we were alone even with other campers on either side of us. I would recommend bringing in (certified) firewood on your way in, the closest place to get wood is quite the drive and wasnt great quality. Really, I would recommend bringing everything you need on the first pass in. Going into town to grab something you may have forgotten entails windy one-lane roads and at least half an hour. Same goes for phone service. If you want a semi-remote front country campsite that really makes you feel like youre in the woods, this is a great place!!

Have camped at this site for many years and will recommend and return! The site was clean; the bathrooms were clean. The only complaint this year was the arrival of three men on motorcycles after quiet hours who proceeded to set up their camp in a non-designated spot and stay up past 2 am talking loudly. The following day when the ranger came to check the bathrooms and remove the trash he did not say a word to these men even though he passed by their "campsite" several times. I was camping with my kids, and every site seemed to be families with kids as well. This sort of unauthorized camping should be addressed to keep sites safe and enjoyable.

The campground was very nice. It was quiet and peaceful. It would have been nice to have heat treated firewood available for purchase at the campground.

Camped 2 nights on September 19. We are a family of four from Costa Rica. First time visit to TGSM. Our experience was really good. September weather and nature is somewhat similar to some places in our country. Restrooms were very clean, and park rangers visited daily to clean and to move the trash. There was only one bear box to store food in, but we were the only ones using it, although there were other families in the campground. We reserved 2 sites, number 4 and 12. We arrived at 12 afternoon and the sites were reserved for us. When planning our visit, I was concerned that the campsites were small, and to follow rules, and not pitch the tent outside the designated camp path, is why I reserved the 2 sites. Made a good decision because 2 tents (ours are small 2 person tents) would not fit in only one camp site. Site 12 is near the restroom, and below some trees. The tent path should be improved to better drain water as a puddle of water appeared after heavy rain and this affected one of the tents as water entered inside it. We did not had this problem in site 4. Site 4 is near the creek and mosquitos can be a problem, so keep that in mind and maintain your tent closed at all times. Overall we had a great experience although it rained on us during our first day. On the second day, my son and I hiked to camp site 17, and my wife and daughter stayed at site 12, and they enjoyed their stay. Trail head for site 17 is near the campground which made it convenient for what we had planed. Suggest to improve the drain capacity on site 12 and figure a way to improve access to the campground as the entry road fits only one vehicle. A couple of times when we drove there we had to put reverse to allow the other car to pass, or hope for the other driver to do the same and allow us to pass first. Chose this campground because is not crowded and is more secluded, which makes it great in the current pandemic. Visit our YouTube channel, Ticofam, for videos of our visit.
