Pretty positive I did not reserve the site I was assigned. Sat on the office phone for 20min just after 5o clock, trying to get ahold of someone to check n see if it was ok to move. There were 5 sites occupied in the park and 3 of em were all next to each other. Thought that was pretty lame not to spread people out when the place was empty. We left. Ate the fee, and went back to Nantahala NF to camp dispersed.

Smokemont is close to Cherokee (about 5 miles). It is on a beautiful creek and there is trailhead access. Nice bathrooms and informative staff.

Very large campground, but it's spread out and forested enough that it was still quiet on Halloween weekend, in peak season. Perhaps we were lucky, but the large fields nearby also seemed to be favorites of the elk, because we saw several small groups of them in the short time we were there.

Nice place with well maintained restrooms. As in most national parks, no showers. Stayed in site B35 with a 22 ft trailer. Was not a good fit for any trailer due to the tree in the driveway corner. Had to pull out onto the grass on the other side and back in again to get out. Truck would not fit on pavement at site so parked in the "overflow" area a couple of site down the road. Sites in the D loop are MUCH better for trailers unless the trailer is very small as in teardrop units. B loop is much more conducive to tents. Nice tables and fire rings.

This campground was very nice and quiet. We camped at B035 and the stream across the street provided a soothing backdrop that lulled us to sleep at night. Being so close to Newfound Gap Road, the campground was more full and didn't feel as secluded at others I've stayed at within the park, but I would still recommend it. This site is right next to the bathroom, which I didn't realize upon booking. I was worried about noise, especially at night, but we didn't experience any. The light from the bathroom was the only inconvenience to staying in a tent. We were lucky enough to have elk walk along the stream just across the street one morning! Also there were many butterflies about and flowers blooming in late April.

Check-in was easy and informative. The ranger had lots of helpful information and was very knowledgeable. The site was just right for my truck and small camper. There were hiking trails right at the campground, and I saw an elk!

The campsite was great we decided to use the campsite near the rr since I get up a lot at night to use the RR, and I am glad we did. we got campsite b035. beautiful location close to the small creek and close to the RR :) there are no showers at this location so we just rode it our for 2 days. It was a fun experience, would definitely recommend!

Beautiful, clean, peaceful. Had most of the whole campground to ourselves in December.

A great homebase for exploring the NC side of the park and surrounding areas. Facilities are well kept. Thank you!

It’s quiet and yet there is so much to do! Hiking trails all around, we had a crick right in front of our campsite! The chapel is to die for! And we got to see ELK every single morning and night simply by leaving camp and heading to the visitor center! There is also a cute little waterfall on the side of the road heading towards gatlinburg only 1/4 to 1/2 a mile away from camp on the left! We filled all our water bottles up multiple times… sooo good! Can’t wait to book our next trip!

Really beautiful campground with clean facilities. The nature trail across the creek was very sweet for the kids and they just loved to play in the water. We had a blast!

Beautiful campground right on the river and close to town. Would have been better if there were showers but we went into it knowing there weren't. Still would be nice though. It's just 10 minutes from Cherokee which has lots of gift shops, an island park, historical buildings park, museum(s), etc. And just under an hour from Gatlinburg which had lots of cool attractions too. I didn't have any service in the park but got some in town. Would definitely come back.

We don't understand with only 2 campgrounds open during the "off season" why at least C section not be open for self contained RVs without the need for a bath house. It would increase revenue without an additional expense.
