Good experience at the campground. The stay was uneventful which is what I want. hiked to Charlies Bunion which is tough and you're rewarded with fantastic views at the top. Also took a ride to the Road to Nowhere (Lakeview Dr) out of Bryson City and hiked through the tunnel and hiked a couple of miles beyond. We saw lots of elk around the Oconaluftee Vistors Center.

Wonderful campground beside the river with plenty of tree coverage. Many pull through sites in the back of the campground, with back in sites up front. Some sites are extremely large and have great space between them. Backing up to other sites is closer. Bathrooms are spaced out well. Dish washing station available, but only cold water. Bathrooms weren't super clean but toilet paper never ran out. Bear proof trash bins also plentiful. The tent pads were huge! We enjoyed this campground and will most likely return. Only concern was the tree cover. While setting up camp a LARGE limb fell over 30 feet to the ground, shattering. It would have killed someone. Definitely look up and be aware if you hear a pop sound-RUN. We saw some rangers at check in on Thursday, but not again until Sunday. Kinda weird not to see any for days. But come Sunday there were plenty rolling through the campground. overall noise level was good at night. I will say the leaves covered the roadways and at night it was hard to see the B spur that cuts in the middle. We saw leaf machines on Sunday but they skipped the spur.

You sent me numerous emails saying do not attempt to go to your campsite! Until we tell you it is safe. And never got a message it was safe! I paid for 4 nights and was told the park and campgrounds were closed! Lost all my money!!!

Mid May was a great time to visit as there no crowds or congestion at the park or visitor center.

Convenient to Cherokee. Easy for car camping. Saw lots of wildlife. Recommend the hourlong loop at the Smokemont stables.

Beautiful spot in the Smokies with nice sized campsites. Clean facilities and level sites. We thoroughly enjoyed cooling off our hot feet after an long hike on the AT. The Smokies are gorgeous!

Spacious quiet campground with several bathroom houses throughout. The river running along the edge adds some morning and evening recreating opportunities.

No issues with campsite as this is the 3rd time I have been to this campground. It is clean and comfortable and the other residents were courteous as well.My only issue was that I was there for 3 days and tried to check in a t the camp office 4 times and no one was there at 9 or 10 AM, 1PM, or 7PM on various days. I also stopped by at 8:15AM my last morning and no ne was present. Granted I was absent away from the campsite for most of each day, but that is probably common for most campers. The last two times I was here someone was manning the office. I am not sure how to check in with no phone service in the campground.

Love the location of Smokemont campground for activities in the southern and central portion of the national park. We saw two herd of elk in two fields north of Oconaluftee Visitor Center on our way to the campground! We arrived pretty late so did not get a chance to fully enjoy all Smokemont had to offer, but did appreciate the sounds of the stream that skirted the camp and the fact there were several hikes within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location- loved having the river view and sounds at all places in the campground, nice trees. People were respectful of quiet hours and the sites were spacious enough that it didnt seem too overcrowded although not all sites were as spacious as ours . Water was not marked as potable but it was. Easy to drive out to visitor center and town of Cherokee, but highly recommend driving a little further to Bryson city - very cool town. We did all our day trips from Smokemont as our base- Enjoyed the beautiful drive to Newfound Gap ( 30 mins) Cades Cove (2 hrs) , and great hikes up Chimneys as well as the arch/ Alum Cave. Thomas driving part of the Blue Ridge Parkway which is also right outside the park- Even more sweeping and spectacular views on BRP

I would love to leave a bad rating so people would stay away :). Prior to covid I could get a spot here easily; but not now. Nice ranger at check-in. Great sites. Clean bathrooms. Still love Smokemont!

Great campground. Quieter side of the Smokies. Less crowded. Cherokee's off season but still plenty to do.

The check-in process was quick and easy, and the staff was warm and friendly. The campsite was clean and well maintained and the restrooms were immaculately clean. Despite our visiting on a weekday and off-season, most of the campsites were occupied but the campground was quiet. This is a great Park Service campground!

Good location. Beautiful campground with plenty of space. I liked the tent pads, which provided a smooth surface to put our two small tents. Restroom was clean. I would have liked a shower, but this is an older campground and was built before showers became standard in national park campgrounds.
