14 Jan 2025, Two notes of caution: 1) Each site does not have a bear-proof food storage locker. There is only one for the entire campground. 2) There are no bike racks to secure your bicycle while you may be away, if you bikepack to this location, or if you want to use a bicycle as a shuttle option to/from another trailhead in conjunction with your automobile.

A large camper parked beside us and did not follow the generator rules. They ran a very load generator almost 24 hours a day for 2 days. Since there are no rangers working in the area we just had to put up with the noise. Otherwise the bathrooms were cleaned everyday and the hikes within the campground are enough to keep you active for many days. The Oconaluftee Visitor Center was open and the trails around the center were fun as well. Make sure to keep an eye on the weather and road closures. You can get the information at the visitor center or on your cell phone near the visitor center.

We love visiting this part of the smokies. Unfortunately this park doesn’t enforce their rules and that really ruins it for others. Generator hours are from 8am to 8pm. There was a camper here who decided 545am was a good time to run his generator and no one there to stop them or kick them out. I tried to move my site but they said it was full well the site I was wanting to switch to was never occupied nor were a bunch of other sites. They may have been reserved online but no one showed. They should be calling these people to make sure they are coming and if not open up the site. Not sure we will camp here again as we like to enjoy quiet times. We have a generator and ran it when needed about two times a day for a total of 2-3 hours. Some just run it to hear it run I suppose.
Camping at Smokemont as the fall season winds down was a perfect experience. Only Loop B was open, it was quiet & the park as a whole had little traffic. We enjoyed horseback riding next to the campground, walks in the woods & along the creek. The visitor center is close by with elk swimming in the river & resting in the prairie some afternoons, quite a treat!
We were very happy with our campsite. Not overly crowded. Great setting and location. Nice hiking trails right from the campground. Bathrooms were very clean and well maintained.

Wonderful campsite - clean and well marked. Because it was January, I had plenty of site options to choose from, even though I reserved a campsite the same afternoon I planned to stay. Very clean (and thankfully heated!) restrooms. Friendly and helpful staff at the nearby Oconaluftee Visitor Center, too.

Mobile Data Speed Map

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
