Beautiful campground. Lots of wildlife. I was there during the monarch butterfly migration. There were hundreds of butterflies. Saw pileated woodpecker, elk, had a run in with a timber rattlesnake on a trail so be aware. Had a wild baby pig run through camp. Lots of trails and it right next to the river. Beautiful place

I wish I could give it a higher rating, unfortunately I am unable to. There was no ranger on site so check in was virtually nonexistent, there was a group camping near us up screaming and being loud well into the early morning, and the lack of rangers allowed it to happen, as no one could enforce any quiet hours.

Beautiful setting alongside a mountain stream. Sites are fairly level. No generators from 8pm to 8am is a little long for operating my rv furnace off battery power only. Several others ran their generators overnight.
The office is operating limited hours during the off season.

We stayed in B-loop in the middle section away from the main camp road. It was a quiet campground the last week in October, perhaps made quieter by the unseasonable cold and rain. We hiked the Smokemont loop and up toward Newton Bald - did not see any other hikers after leaving the Bradley Fork horse trail. Well situated to visit the elk, head up to the Gap and other trailheads. Lovely spot, will definitely return.

We recently camped for 2 nights at Smokemont Campground and really enjoyed our trip. The bathroom facilities and the campsite itself were clean, the tent pad was in the great condition, and there was easy access to the bear-proof trash containers. The campground was so nicely situated next to the stream--we loved hearing the moving waters as we fell asleep in our tent. And speaking of noise--or lack thereof--we greatly appreciated that there were generator-free loops for tent camping. One recommendation would be to more clearly indicate, at the main campground area, where to find the firewood for sale over near the horse stables; there's the sign near the entry to the campground off the main road, but I didn't see that when we were just arriving, so it would have been helpful to have a posted note on the main campground building/ranger station helping to direct new arrivals to the wood supply.

Great creek for our little ones to
play and wade in.

The campground is in a beautiful setting but the sites are crowded too close together and provide absolutely no privacy. We were in site B23.
