Smokemont is probably my favorite campground in the Smoky Mountains. I camp at all of them, depending on where our activities will be centered around, but Smokemont is a small, quaint campground like the ones I remember when I was a kid.

Lots of places to tent camping. Quiet! Nice stream nearby

I have been at this location in 5 occasions. My best camping experience thus far. Beautiful place, friendly staff, and close to major attractions.

The Good: Great location for the hike we wanted to do and direct access to nearby trails for morning walks. Campground is basically a big open forested area with lovely partial shade. Bathrooms and grounds were clean. The Bad: Campsites are packed in tightly so be warned there is no privacy and neighbors are just a few feet from you. Wednesday wasn't crowded and the evening was quiet. However, thursday was PACKED with loud families, screaming kids, and dogs rolling in late. People were up chatting loudly till midnight which made sleeping in our tent impossible due to the campsites being so close. Bring earplugs. Also there's no soap in the bathrooms which feels like it should be a basic safety requirement to prevent spread of disease in the campground.

The campsite was clean, well kept and very quiet at night. I could not have asked for any more.

We loved camping at Smokemont! It was very convenient to be able to buy wood at the camp store. Even though there are a lot of campsites here, it did not feel crowded at all--bathrooms never got busy and we only had to wait for the wash station once. Having the creek running on the edge of the campgrounds and the short hiking path on the other side was a nice bonus. No bears--everyone seemed to be responsible with their food. Easy to check in and out. Conveniently located close to some of the more popular areas of the park, and less than15 minutes from the Cherokee reservation.
