We had a great experience, including seeing lots of elk, even in the campground! The camp host was very friendly and helpful, and the office staff were also great. They helped us switch campsites in order to be in a sunnier spot for our solar panels and explained what the later posts were. (We saw people using them for all sorts of crazy things!)

A beautiful camping area and good spacing of the sites. Very quiet and relaxing. We have a dog and really enjoyed the hike that ended at the Cherokee land. We just wished there were more options to hike with a dog.

We loved our time at Smokemont. The campground was clean and well maintained, including the restrooms. You could hear the creek from most of the sites which made for a peaceful sleep. The staff were friendly and very helpful when we wanted to change our site. If you're tent camping I would recommend the A, B or C loop. The D look is pull through and there were some large RVs there. Would definitely go back again.

Wonderful!Nice and quiet location with plenty of spots. Mind you we went in November.Only downside was that it was advertised to have cellular access but it does not. It's super spotty with 1 bar in some areas (but even 1 bar didn't work).

This campground is the best I've been too. It's all flat with lots of trees covering most of it. It has trails all around it, and a beautiful creek running beside it. It's very quiet and peaceful. You really can't go wrong staying here.

Mostly great. Two things - (1) the folks who were staying at the sites next to the public restrooms were frustrated that children apparently were getting lost in the dark and running in to their tents. Though my kid did this only once, she was roughly handled and spoken to by the guest. We opted to let it be. Obviously this is not recreation.gov or NPS issue, but maybe advise folks who book that spot not to put their extra shelter on the trail leading away from the restroom? And (2) if NPS thinks they might have to close the road through the park (441) overnight due to snow / ice -- maybe send out a text to those staying in Smokemont to make sure they didn't drive into Gatlinburg for an early dinner because nothing was open in Cherokee except Wendy's? Driving around the long way sucked. We were in an AWD vehicle and are accustomed to driving on snow and ice, and it didn't occur to us that the snow / ice would be an issue for anyone because we didn't see any on the road accumulating when we drove through in the afternoon, only to be locked out when we tried to drive back, around 6.

Water was conveniently located on site to fill the water tank on the camper. Campsites were clean and spacious, all camp personnel were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful hiking trails within walking distance of the campground.

Very easy to get to (unlike other campgrounds in the park), great sites near a creek and nature trail, and a very family-friendly atmosphere!

Second trip to this campground. Nice (large) campground. Easy access to trails, and the facilities were clean by campground standards. Only downside is the proximity to other campers. It is pretty snug if you dont get a handful of campsites which can be a little annoying at times, but overall its a nice place to base out of if hiking in the area. Also, great area to see elk (we saw close to 40 in a field about 5 min from the campground) which is really cool.

It was pretty cold at Smokmont Campground after the sunset and someone turned on their generators in the middle of the night, which was loud and would wake you up. There was only one bathroom open (Loop A), so be ready to wait when you have to use the bathroom for #2. The ranger station was closed during Christmas break, but rangers were coming regularly to check the campground. If you have an RV or a big trailer camper with generators and a bathroom, you may consider camp here during the winter. If you have to sleep in your car or a tent, you may think twice.

What a beautiful campground! One of the cleanest sites I've stayed at. Would definitely stop here again!

The creek/river was right next to our campsite and made for beautiful white noise. Our campsite had the perfect amount of shade and a beautiful view of the stars!
