The campsite we had reserved was a non-generator site. The ranger said we could change to a generator-allowed site in section F, which we did. We were pleased. When we arrived at the entrance to Smokemont there were six or seven elk grazing on the roadside grass. Seeing them was a plus.

We liked the campsite. The rating would be higher had the bathrooms been cleaner. There was no soap dispenser on the wall and no other soap provided. There were also lots of dead bugs and hairs on/in and around the sinks.

Everything was great other than the homeless person we encountered. He was sleeping in the middle of the Smokemont trail, then he broke the hand dryer in the bathroom. We spoke with a park ranger and he explained they were aware of him and have had issues. Suggestion, physically remove him from park please. You’re just going to continue to have issues. The National Park is NOT for homeless to take residence.

Beautiful sites, wonderful park rangers working there. Clean and spacious campsite, Very convenient location, about 6 miles to Cherokee, which has gas stations, restaurants, even a casino! About 30 miles to Gatlinburg, the tourist town. The campground is on the famous Newfound Gap Road inside the park, many overlooks, trailheads on this road. We will definitely come back to camp here.

Nice campground not far from the Oconaluftee River, Trail, and Visitors Center. We stayed in campsite B14 and were actually able to hear the river flow from the site. Very cool! Keep in mind that this is on the south end of the park, close to the gate (and a quick drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway).

Beautiful campground. We were early in the season so water was only at bathroom and a single faucet at the dump station area. We were in RV so no issue to us but lots of the tent campers were washing dishes in the bathroom. Campground was clean and in an awesome location. There was no ranger for check in and the entry station was never staffed so you just went with your reservation and hoped for best. A little unnerving but turned out fine. Great campground and we'd love to return someday.

When we arrived someone was in our reserved prime campsite. I did arrive 30 minutes early so I parked waiting on the Florida group to vacate my reserved site. They left leaving the campsite occupied. I went to the office and the lady in charge said I would have to take a site in a section that was not open. She did not make these people move. I have a special needs child and I had reserved a site close to the restroom. We are not happy the the park staff did not honor my reservation. She gave me not choice and was jolly about the situation. Come to find out the people that was in my reserved site had reservations But did not like their site so they took mine. Again the park staff in the office said it was my fault? I have not figured out how it was my fault. When she moved me to the closed section the maintenance man came to me and told me I could not stay here. He was not nice at the beginning but when I explained what had happened he apologized but said I should be in that site. Again I don’t understand how this was my fault.
