Campground was clean and well maintained. Do not expect any privacy in campsites though. I stayed at B-009, the sites are so close to one another that you can hear everything. No easement between other sites. People walking thru site to rest rooms and cars driving thru loop constantly. I would recommend sites Loop A 5-7, they have somewhat larger easement and back up to the woods. Hiking trails are not good. Do not hike the Bradley Fork Trail, it's a gravel road used by horses and full of manure. I hiked to the Smokemont Loop Trail cutoff to discover it is not maintained. The Smokemont Nature Trail located near the river is a an easy trail. Campground is in a great location, close to Cherokee and Newfound Gap. Arrive at destinations before 8:30, there's only one road.

Smokemont 10/20-21/23 B 11 tent camping. I have been enjoying this time of year here for quite a few years near this site. It offers all you need for tent camping, well taken care of site and rest room close by.

Being off season (mid-Sept), the C section where I stayed was not busy. Bathroom was clean and well stocked with toilet tissue. One water faucet-drinking fountain near my campsite didn't work, but the one on the other side did. The tent pads here are crushed gravel, making the tent floor a little spiky in places even with a tarp under my tent. Campers obeyed the quiet hours and all were polite. Campsite office helped me to extend my stay by 1 day and were very friendly and helpful. Main wildlife in the campground were crows who made sure to visit picnic tables when campers were not around. Horse stables next to Smokemont sell ice and wood and a few other camping supplies. Nice people there also. The town of Cherokee nearby has anything you could want, though I only visited the Food Lion grocery for food supplies.

Lovely campground, check-in process was easy, and it was kept very clean. The grounds are beautiful! Horseback riding is right there, and although there is no cell service, it is only a couple of miles drive to reach a signal. The campground is very close to the visitor center, entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Cherokee. Lots of opportunity to see elk, which was my main focus. If you enjoy history, the museums and the drama Unto These Hills in Cherokee are fantastic! Two things to be aware of...at least in B loop there were few options for bathrooms. The closest to me could only be reached by walking through other sites. Generally it is camping etiquette that you do not walk through another camper's site. In this case it is impossible not to if you need to use the restrooms. I did my best to stay as far from tents\campers as I could, but others were not as considerate. I had people walking right by my tent and car on their way, children running through, etc. If the campground would establish some clear paths between sites using gravel or lined walkways, perhaps it would prevent that from happening. The other issue that I had was washing dishes. Similar to Cades Cove, there is no shelf or counter at the sink to set your things while you wash. The shared sink is kind of nasty looking, so nobody wanted to actually set their dishes in it to wash them, and there was no place to set them after rinsing except the sidewalk, which was muddy. It was a juggling act for sure, I finally came up with a process that worked using two bins, but still had to set one on the ground and it was difficult not to waste a lot of water.

Always a great stay. Favorite campground to date. B9 was surprisingly peaceful for being in the center. Facilities were clean as always and staff/volunteers always helpful.
