Great campground

I preferred the campsite setup of the Cosby campground, plus the bathrooms were cleaner there, but Smokemount was still overall fine. It was close to a lot of major trailheahs, a visitor center, and a gas station for firewood. It felt very safe

We spent one night at Smokemont Campground after 2 nights at Cade's Cove and one night at Elkmont. Overall the campground was great. The bathrooms here were clean, had some good air circulation and actually smelled good, overall the best of the 3 campgrounds we stayed at, although all of the bathrooms were actually pretty well maintained/cleaned. The river was beautiful and we did a little fishing with the kids which was fun. One of the highlights for us was a terrific 1hr horseback ride at the Smokemont Stables which was so much fun. We did a short walk/hike in the morning after packing up our site and before leaving the park, but wished we had more time to explore the trails nearby. Could easily spend more time here on another trip.

What a terrific campground! The restrooms were clean, and the campground was peaceful. We didn't hear our neighbors in the evening, and even had two elk walk thru one morning.

We had the very first site after the ranger station, which meant there was a lot of traffic going past us. The site we had wasn't the quietest but it was still a nice space. Cars travelling on the road were going uncomfortably fast for how many children were around. Lights at the ranger station kept coming on all night. I suggest not having a spot near the front of the campground! Campsite was flat and easily accessible. Campground is close to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center, which frequently has elk herds near.

CAMPGROUND WAS IN MOSTLY GOOD SHAPE. HOUSEKEEPING ON THE BATH ROOMS WAS A LITTLE SLACK. THE ONE IN SECTION B WAS NOT CLEAN AND THE ODER WAS VERY FOUL.

I was able to check in a little early so I could go adventure. Lady ranger at front was very helpful and sweet! Recreation.gov gave my annual pass a discount but unfortunately at check-in, they discredited my discount so I paid full price. Goes to a great place so I wasn’t mad.
I enjoyed my 9-day stay in Smokemont Campground. They have a great staff, taking great care of the bathrooms as well as the grounds. It is a great location for exploring this great national park with easy access to the town of Cherokee, the Visitor's Center, lots of great hiking trails and beautiful streams to fish.

A wonderful campground with a nice stream running next to it. The bathrooms were clean and the site was nice. My one complaint was the check in requirement because we got in at 5pm for our first night and it was too late to check in, but we wanted to catch the sunrise the next morning and had to make a trip back to the campground after the sunrise just to check in before we could head back out for our hikes.
