If you live in the south and looking for a place to cool down try the beautiful mile high Balsam Mountain National Park campground. Forest bathing at its best! Great hosts too very accommodating.

Most campsites are very close to each other. There was no host or other control of the site. Younger campers rolled in late, made camp next to us, built a fire that blew smoke into our tent and stayed up talking til midnight and beyond. Other than that but of bad luck it is a nice place, well maintained and clean. Very subject to the elements though as it on top of a tall mountain.

Was going to camp here for several days. When I arrived I realized it wasn't very kid friendly. And decided to cancel my reservation and only stay for a night. This campground is far from civilization, not many hiking trails to pick from. The few they have are not kid friendly. The site I stayed at had a very steep hill from the road to the camp. It had steps but they looked more slippery and dangerous than the hill. Anyway.. I was getting ready to leave for our next campsite the following morning when as I was taking my 6 month old to the car and slipped and fell busting my head on the grass. My 6 month old was fine but was startled. I spent over $70 to camp there and when I canceled my reservation I only received $7 and some change back. What a shame. I tried to contact recreation.gov to see about being refunded, but was not able to find a direct number.

I don't want others to go there. It's a special place that needs no promotion.

Clean, on top of a mountain, how much better can that get. Not to mention we had internet and cell phone connections!!! Easy access to water and bathrooms if needed. Do wish that some of the camping sites were larger but it was on a mountain. Very pleasant experience, highly recommend staying there

Everything was great.Campground was nice.Away from everything but not too far away. The only thing I recommend is maybe having a cb or two way radio. One night we had some knuckleheads camping a ways down from us. We were the only people there and then these people were super loud. Drunk. Rowdy all night. At about 430 am I finally tried to male contact with the park. No cell service. The only way I found was enough to Facebook message somehow to a page. I asked for them to call out a ranger. The Reply was 2 days later. Lol.I though about whipping some ass Texas style but surely is would make me the bad guy somehow. Other than that one night it was awesome. I dont mind peoe having fun but drunk loud 5am is ridiculous.
