This was a very nice campground not far from the Sand Dunes. We rode our bikes to the Sand Dune parking lot and to the visitor center. The parking spot for our 30 ft camper was a drive in one and was a little tight but we were able to get our trailer and truck in it. Very nice campground and nice and quiet. Had fun hiking up the Sand Dunes as they are beautiful against the backdrop of the Mountains. Also recommend going to the near by Zapata Falls Recreation Area and hiking to the Falls. You have to hike up the cold shallow river just a little bit but it is beautiful. Make sure to wear waterproof hiking sandals.

We really enjoyed our stay at Pion Flats Campground. Bathrooms were very clean and the site was in great condition. The view was amazing. You can walk directly onto the Great Sand Dunes from the campground. Highly recommended if you plan on visiting the area.

When I made reservations for site 83 at Pinion Flats campground the discription was a pull thru which could handle a 27 foot trailer. My understanding of a pull thru is like a driveway or road away from the main road. When I got to the camp site I found a wide section of the road which I had extreme difficutly parking my trailer. The discription of the site needs to be correctly discribed.

Nice campground between the dunes and the mountains. There is a trail right next to the site that leads to the dunes. The restrooms are a 1-2 minute walk down the nearby pathway. The night sky was beautiful here and there is a decent amount of people up at 2am looking at the stars through their telescopes. We stated in late May and it still got pretty chilly overnight. Overall a great campsite.

It was nice that we were able to move the picnic table otherwise we would have needed to put our tent in an inconvenient location. The space was small but adequate for our four person tent. There were three steps down from the road to the campsite (#83) something I missed if it was evident in the photos of the site. Not a problem for us but something that would be nice to have highlighted. Overall, a very good experience at this campground.

Space is to small for RV although it was designated for a RV and not even close to level. The dump station for RV doesn't have the correct hose hookup for cleaning out your tank.

Fantastic campgrounds. The facilities were super clean and the campground was week maintained. The entire campground was quiet at 10pm you could hear a pin drop. Cant wait to do it again!!!!

Campground was well taken care of and clean. Walking distance to the dunes and fantastic views of Colorado mountains and dunes. Each camp site has a fire pit, picnic table and a bear box(nice if you need it). The campground has a small amphitheater within walking distance that wasnt active during our stay though probably has activities during the summer. Campground also has a small store in a small building which sells ice and such. Sand Dunes National Park Visitor Center is a short drive, tons of info on the dunes and park as well as a Jr Ranger passport stop for the kiddos. We plan to make this a future stop again.

Camp sites are def short. More intended for tent camping. Camp hosts were a great help.

Good experience, wonderful Nat. Park. The campsite was fine, bathrooms clean, abundant water. However, most other National Park restrooms we have visited had electrical outlets. Pinon Flats had none. We needed to charge phones. Very important in this day and age. Also, there were no hooks on the walls. When using the sinks to wash up, shave, etc., it is very helpful to have a hook or two to hang your towel, shaving kit, etc. on so as not to have to put it on the floor or the wet sink.
Little things, but make life a lot easier.
