We enjoyed our 2-night stay at Pinion Flats campground.1. It was within walking distance to the Great Sand Dunes.2. There were good hiking trails.3. The films shown in the visitors center were very informative and interesting.4. The campground restrooms were clean!5. The campground store was convenient.6. The campground was quiet and the park rangers were helpful.

Try to get a campsite with some shade! The one we got this time looked like it had good coverage, but it really didn't. The sun can be quite brutal out there! Make sure you bring sunscreen and bug spray to make your trip excellent. Also note that if you plan to visit Zapata falls, you will need to traverse through the river. Water shoes are a must and hiking poles are quite helpful.

The campground bathrooms are clean. Mosquitoes were bad. Store was not open three of our four night stay.

The campground is beautiful and fit into the natural surroundings. Bathrooms are very clean. We enjoyed the campground in our 21 travel trailer. The sites are pretty tight and I dont think they would support much bigger rigs. Sand Dunes park is remote and far away from any surrounding towns. I would recommend that you come with all that you need as supplies are very far off. They do have a small store/gas station outside the entrance to the park. But it is minimally stocked.

Pinon Flats is one of the better campgrounds around. People are friendly and trully respect eachother. As other campgrounds have declined around human respect for one another this campground has kept its accommodations top notch which seems to have an effect on how your stay plays out

Site 81 isn’t an ideal trailer site given you have to back in and block the road with the tow vehicle arriving and departing. Also narrow site width for a trailer and a truck side by side. Otherwise a nice spot.

Park was great, rangers kept behind the scenes, visitors center was unfortunately under construction but oh well.

Perfect spot, easy access to the Dunes and is as advertised (you know you don't have a shower, but you do get a view)

We had such a wonderful time at Pion Flats ! We loved being within walking distance of the dunes . The campsites (we had to book 2 and move midway through our stay due to it being a last minute trip) were nice and clean . Bear boxes worked well . We didnt see any bears during our stay ! The campsites were a little close together in some spots . There were some loud campers on Friday night but they quieted down at a reasonable hour . Cell phone reception was pretty good (Verizon ) . Texts and calls worked perfectly but my daughters live streaming classes were spotty .

The Sand Dunes are great, but the hiking trails were worth the long trip! We stayed on loop 2 site 81. Very close to the restrooms. (Bring hand soap and hand sanitizer) The sites are close together. But our time there was quite and peaceful! We didnt have any problems with mosquitoes. The flys were vicious though. Our family can not wait to visit again!
