Good campground with great access to the dunes! And nice to have real bathrooms with running water and wash sinks.

Pinion Flats is bare bones. There's no electricity or water on site. Many of the sites are very small, well-suited to tent camping and small trailers or self-contained campers. If you decide to try for a Pinion Flats site, pay very close attention to the description in the booking process. If a site descriptor says 'RV to 20 feet' then take it as gospel, and the closer it is to that footage, the tighter it will be for parking your tow vehicle. Satellite surveillance via Google is helpful.Though each of the loops has Campbell hydrants for water, the hydrants do not have a threaded connector. In other words, you cannot hook up a hose to fill your tank. You can get potable water at the dump station. It is well separated from the non-potable water for flushing out black and grey tanks and hoses. There is no threaded connector on this one, either, but its a flexible tubing with a fitting that allows filling. The dump station is situated on a slope. For our Casita, this was helpful in draining the grey tank, though we still had to toss a leveling block under the off side to get a proper 'lean' into the dump tank. Each of the loops has 'real' bathrooms; that is, flush toilets, and sinks. They are clean and well-maintained. There is a dish-washing station at each of the bathroom buildings. Our site was nicely shaded by pinions, though we were able to get a good sunny spot up the hill a bit for our solar panel. This is where a long extension cable is handy; ours is a thirty-footer.All the sites are paved for parking RV and tow vehicle, with gravel pads for the fire ring and picnic table. The campground was quiet with little noise. Most of the sites are are either far enough apart for privacy, or well-screened by pinions and other trees and shrubs to provide privacy. It's a really good campground.

Had an amazing week long stay at this campground! The campsites each have a big tent area with picnic table, fire ring and bear box, which is separated from the parking area. Lots of trees so sites feel private. There is fresh water at the dump station so you can fill your tank. The only downside is no electric hook up. Was able to use my Verizon hotspot to work from the campground which was a big plus, but the best cell service is definitely from the dunes or dunes parking area. There is a trail directly from the campground and the 4x4 dirt road is also great for hiking, lots of picnic areas and shady spots along that road. My dogs and I had the best time here!

What caught my heart was the fact that the facility had my name on the sign post of my campsite. Plan to be there again in June 2023 and every year! Customer service is sooo important and it is AMAZING!!

Great campsite minutes from the sand dunes. Really nice with wooded sites.

The campsite spaces were misrepresented. For example a "pull through" site was really just a bump out in the road. This created a hazard that the camper, tow vehicle, or slide out was protruding out into the road. In my opinion, those sites should be sold as "tent" sites and not recommended for a camper or RV. Otherwise, everything was clean and the people were friendly.

I hadn't been there in years and it was much more crowded than I had experienced. I was unable to reserve early or find a first come fs site. I was very disappointed. But it was extremely busy just unexpected.

The campground was full, which is ok, but that meant crowded bathrooms with no soap or hand sanitizer provided. To make no adjustments whatsoever in response to the pandemic is just ridiculous, especially with all the money coming in from a packed campground. If the park cant open its visitor center, surely thats a recognition these arent normal times. So but a few Purell dispensers at least.

It was a wonderful place. We loved it. The only downside were the loud people camping next to us who were up partying to all hours of the night. I wish there was a park ranger who was enforcing the quiet hours.
