This is a nice, quiet campground. We appreciated the bathrooms, especially the family one that made it easier to be with my children and handle medical situations. The dishwashing sink was also nice to have. The trail to the bathroom did have cacti along it, so at night we stuck to the road, which worked well. The site was a little small to fit both our regular tent and screen tent, but we made it work. Definitely bring bug spray!

It was okay. Lacking in seeing any Rangers in campground. our sites were unlevel. Just seemed unhuman. All transactions are handled by an app.

Don't miss the camp store! Well stocked and open from 7:30am (fresh coffee!) to 7:30pm. It's at the entrance of loop two. Mosquitoes are thick for half an our at sunrise and again at sunset. Super clean bathrooms. Excellent camp hosts.

It would have been excellent, but every bathroom was under construction so there was only porta toilets. There was also no place to do dishes. The only trash bin was about 1/2 mile away from our camp site, so that made it difficult to manage trash (especially in the evenings). Over all, a great camp site with excellent views and trail access.

Most sites are suited to Smaller Class-C RV's, truck-campers or tents. Travel Trailers have difficult approach to most back-ins and Pull-Throughs gave me concerns with the Slide or our stairs being close to the road.We came in after the Host had left for the season, the Rangers at the Entry were great in helping with finding a Site we could fit our 25ft Travel Trailer.

We stayed with a 30 ft RV and absolutely loved it. Almost uninterrupted view on the sand dunes and nicely quiet at night. Can highly recommend the campground.

Our campsite was very difficult to park our 15 foot trailer in. It took us many tries, and when we left, we had to go out the wrong way.The bathrooms were minimal with no soap or paper towels. I have talked to many people who have stayed there and they all seemed to have trouble getting into their sites.Perhaps it would helpful if you made sure you know the size of the trailers arriving and book them into more appropriate sites.

Be prepared to extremely variable weather! I was in a sweatshirt at night and shorts/tanktop during the day. Listen to the recommendations and do the sandy stuff in the early AM or late PM to avoid the heat. Hike the waterditch trail for great views!

I'm not sure there's a bad spot at this campground. Great spot.

Hike the sand dunes early in the morning when it is cooler. For RVs the aback no angles are very inconsistent. You may need to drive against the one way directional sign to actually get your RV in the assigned space. The Rangers are aware of this necessity and you wont get into trouble. Zapata Falls hike outside the park is nice, but you will be crossing the creek multiple times to get to the end. Plan on getting your feet wet and have fun!

The place is magical. All the campsites are great. Easy access to toilet and water. It gets a bit windy so prepare for that. Sand will get everywhere however it's very worth it.

I researched carefully to ensure we got an appropriate campsite to fit our RV. When we arrived, the campsite did not conform to the description given in recreation.gov and we did not fit. The camp host acknowledged it was not the first time this had happened with this site, yet the park continues to decline to either change the description to be accurate or fix the campsite to match the description. They had an overflow site we could use, but it was a terrible site at the intersection of the main roads and definitely not the experience we had expected.

A beautiful place to camp! We enjoyed climbing and surfing (you can rent a sled or board from a few local places) the dunes! We also took some time to hike up to Zapata Falls- the dirt road up to the trailhead is under construction, but is still open to vehicles. The falls are just starting to thaw and are breathtaking!
Our family was pleasantly surprised with the bathroom facilities- we were prepared for compost toilets, but the campground had several multi-stall toilets and sinks with running water.
The darkness and quiet of the campground at night made for a wonderful outing with nature.
The Park Rangers were fantastic! So helpful and happy to answer any questions we had.

The sand dunes are magic and Pion Flats is a great and convenient place to camp in order to explore the dunes! The sites were lovely, although a little tight to get into (and facing the wrong direction). There were a ton of mosquitoes when we were there, obviously not the fault of anyone, and that was sad - we literally couldnt be outside at the campground. The dunes were still lovely though!
