The campground itself is not that great, but the location, at Great Sand Dunes NP make it a wonderful experience. The sites are very well maintained and the bathrooms are nice (flush toilets and lit at night). However, the sites are really crammed together. Most are very small, and vehicles end up parked part way into the road because of that. Many are just pull offs. Pick your site carefully! #69 was nice in that it was one of the larger ones and the unobstructed view of the dunes was fabulous. Seems like you have to pick between a great view, and shade trees, rarely do you get both. Highly recommend walking to the dunes from the campground. It's a short walk, to a quieter area and you don't have to bother with no parking spots. The night skys were nice, but there's a lot of light pollution in the distance, making night photography not so good.

Great place to camp! Very quiet and clean. The facilities don't include shower but we heard Oasis Restaurant outside of the park has showers. The location was perfect (we had a space facing the dunes) and it was so convenient to stay in the park

Visit the dunes in the spring or fall when the days are cooler. Most campers stay only one or two nights. There are no showers, but the Oasis Lodge outside the park does. Maintenance in the park is very good, and the camp store is handy. It can be unpleasant if there are winds in excess of 20 MPH.

This is a great campground in a stunningly unique and beautiful setting. The Park had alerted us that the campground bathrooms would be closed and under construction during our stay, and that there would be porta-potties and hand washing stations. I don't usually have a problem with these type of facilities, but unfortunately the temporary toilets were only serviced every 3-4 days, and became quiet dirty and full after 2 days. There were no handwashing stations, only the already existing camp water spigots. I can imagine that as the weather warms up, this could become even more unpleasant. It looked like the bathroom renovation was a large project and that this situation could last quite a while, so be prepared for that!

We had a great time! Campground was great, rangers were always around if you needed something, the visitor center was great and my kids loved getting their junior ranger badges.

We had a great view from our campsite of the sand dunes but the site (069) is not level left to right, so I could not level our camper.

One of our favorite camping places in the national park system. Site #69 was the best. We were unable to get consecutive campsite for entire stay but the change of campsites did not detract from the adventure. No showers but the rinse station by the dunes was refreshing after a hot hike on High Dune and/or sandboarding.

Amazing tent site with spectacular view of the Dunes. Easy close access to clean flush toilets and running water, with automatic lighting - very plush amenities with camping! Arrived after 4pm to our site and saw it clearly marked with our name and date - also reassuring to have the reminder emails confirming our stay. Different park rangers came through a few times so all seemed to be well-monitored. Loud RV generator nearby stopped by late evening (worried about them running all night) so folks seemed to be abiding by quiet hours for sleeping and some barking dogs also quieted down overnight. Cold blowing wind in early May there but we know the NPS cannot control the weather! Could not have hoped for an easier fun stay, only for warmer gentler weather. Highly recommend but need to book early in the year for greater than 1 one night stay and perhaps for a later May visit for better warmth (if tent camping). Thanks!!

Excellent campground with great views of the dunes. Very family and pet friendly, kids riding bikes around the loops, campers walking dogs. Reasonably quiet.

Great location. Don't pay attention to the book registration at the site because we used it and registered for a site. We paid. Then went to the site and some had failed to use the book registration and was there. We had to go physically go looking for a site that had no one there. Then reregistered. Had to tell the host that the registration didn't match the site we were at. Also all the trash containers were locked along with any recycling containers. Other than that a great site.

Just love this campground! Beautiful views, nice clean facilities, and not too expensive (appropriate, given there are no hookups).

Great campground with clean flush toilets. Bathrooms have instructions on proper hand washing, but do not have soap; bring your own soap and hand towels. Beautiful and close to the dunes, themselves, less than a 10 minute hike to the sand. We look forward to returning. Dry camp site, but with potable water available in each loop.

We CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER. That was, uh, FOUR MONTHS AGO. We don't even try any more with your customer service.
