Didn't go. Couldn't get definitive information on whether the campground was open or not during the shutdown. I was at other NP during the same week and the campgrounds were closed.

I stayed at campsite #67 which had unobstructed views of the mountains and sandunes looking out the back of the site. The trees and schrubs on each side made for some privacy from the neiboring campsites. The restrooms appreared remodeled, they are nicer than the ones at Yellowstone or the Teton's. They had a sink wash area for your dishes at the restrooms as well. The campground exists on a rolling topography, so bring your levelers. most sites are small and on some sort of grade. My truck is 19 feet long with a slide-out kitchen (5 more feet) off of the tail gate and fit just fine, however the pad slopes downhill to the left of the pad. My mattress kept sliding off of the platform. The bearproof food locker for this site was placed under a nice shade tree, leaving your cooler during the day will not overheat.

Well-maintained campground, lots of sites. Stayed in site 67 which had awesome views of the sand dunes, close to restrooms, potable water spigots, and the overview trailhead. Most of the sites in the 60s have greats views of the sand dunes. This campground had some of the cleanest restrooms (with flush toilets) I've ever seen in any campground. Got lucky and reserved a site 2-3 days before arrival due to cancellations. Easy access to the main visitor parking lot and trails from the campground. Staff were friendly and informative. I would definitely camp here again.

I think this campground has set the bar pretty high for my first camping experience. The grounds are really well kept, exceptional bathroom facilities (no showers), and the views were amazing from our campsite. The proximity to the dunes is great but we still drove over. The Milky Way views are unreal. Site 67 is perfect for a view of the dunes and mountains and secluded enough from the main collection of sites that you wont be kept awake by those talking into the night. We also had site 78 which is closer to the restrooms also with a good view of the dunes and shade cover. But site 78 doesnt have much privacy. Such a great experience and Id definitely return if in the area again.

It was excellent, exceeding expectations with views of dunes, snow peaks and fall colors. The restrooms were spectacularly clean and there was a dish wash station and water filling station.

They weren't joking when they said there was a recent mosquito boom - we were basically bathing in bug spray the entire time. Plan accordingly! Otherwise, a very nice site for a trailer camper. There was plenty of room to park our camper and our truck. Nice view of the dunes from the site.

Amazing. Larger camper/truck pad. Able to get our long pop up and suburban parked easily. The view is worth a million dollars. Facilities were cleaner that any campground we have been in.

The check-in process was super easy. Park staff were very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were really clean. We had a ton of fun! Campground was a bit noisy at night but it's a public campground so that's to be expected.

The Good-Campground was clean and had steel lock bins for food due to bear activity. The views from my site (loop 2, 067) were spectacular! Picnic table and fire pit were both provided for in the campsite. Area was easy to navigate with my F150 and 22 Travel Trailer. Camping spot had plenty of room for my trailer and tow vehicle. The Not-So-Good (but not bad)I know this is out of the campgrounds control, but it is related to the area; wind. It was super windy and hazy while I was there in April. There were no hookups in my trailer site (not a big deal). Cell service was very weak to the point Spotify and Pandora had to frequently buffer. If you want internet, this isnt the place for you. Site was not level but could be corrected with leveling jacks or several leveling squares (more than normal). Fairly good separation between sites, but not great. 4/5 Stars

Beautiful, well-maintained campground, with great views of the Sand Dunes. We will definitely go back. Lots of mosquitoes, but very manageable- just be sure to bring your repellent.

Nice campground with views of the sand dunes. It looked like most camp spots were not level and needed extra help to get anything other than tents level. It was super windy + cold, but the dark skies were amazing. the Camp store was really convenient and had a good selection of items considering how small it is. We rented a board from the shop just outside the park for the kids to sled down the dunes.

We come here most years in late May or early June. The campground is very clean and has ample room for tents as well as vans or trucks. Im always amazed at the size RVs some people are able to park here as well - it isnt really designed for them, but some sites are designated as being more compatible. The bathrooms are kept very clean as well. If you are lucky to get a site with a view of the Dunes, the sunsets can be spectacular. It is a not too long walk to the Dunes. Dogs are allowed on leash in the campground and down on the Dunes. Consider bringing booties for them - the sand can be hot, there are cacti around, and sometimes even the cool sand can irritate sensitive dog feet. The nearby Mosca Pass bike is nice for a change of pace as well.

Great campground, the sites are nicely arranged and well kept. Nice bathrooms and water stations. Its a busy campground no doubt. There were deer resting in the shade right next to campers. I highly recommend having a screen room to get away from the mosquitoes in the summer. If you want to hike to the top of the dunes be sure to get up early and bring water. Other than the mosquitoes it was an amazing trip.
