The campsites were not level. Additionally, the website mentions nothing about low hanging tree limbs across the loop. Our camper is high and we snagged the awning on the way out. This was an expensive visit.

Stay was great! Tip- an outside site on loop one provides the best view of the dunes. If not loop one, most outside ones on loop two also provide great views. If you are in an RV, you will definitely have to level. Overall, we cant complain and would definitely purely stay at Pion Flats again.

Campsite was in a great location but the RV pad I parked on was very unlevel. Did not make for pleasant sleeping. But other then that it was great.

Bathrooms newly renovated and nice. Our site had some wind protection with the rocks. Limited shade.

We had spot 65 which was a great back in spot for our 23' camper. Just stayec overnight, so we were able to leave our camper hooked up. Close to restrooms and water. Quiet. Could view the dunes from our location.

We were in spot 65 with was nice. There are spots with better views but this one was laid out well. Bathrooms were very clean but no soap or any way to dry hands after washing. There are mosquitos so be prepared. Great park! Worth a few night visit.

Both nights we camped were loop 2 site 65. This site is awesome. Minus an obstructed view of the dunes and little to no shade this site is one of the best within loop 2.. its tucked away in the far end of the loop and has a bathroom and wash station directly behind it maybe 30 yards distance. Of course this may be a downside when the heat takes over. Site 65 is listed as an RV site but tent camping is allowed if all tent sites are taken. We tent camped and had plenty of room and a very flat surface. This site is surrounded by trees however none of them hang over and cover the tent pad like other sites in the immediate vicinity. It was windy windy windy though so take proper precautions when setting up camp. Fires were allowed within the national park even as gusts reached 30mph. This was memorial weekend though so I imagine as the summer goes on the fire ban will be implemented. Bathrooms were very clean and due to it being all the way in the back of the loop there was no one ever using it. The camp store has wonky hours (2-8pm) when we were there and it has firewood for $8 a cord and other campsite items including ice and drinks. Rangers came by twice a day, even more on Sunday. There was no camp host but there is a reserved spot for one so again as summer goes on I imagine there will be a host present. Very nice hikes located within 30 yards of site 65 as well. We didnt have to use our car once to get anywhere worth seeing.

Nice campground, most sites are fairly small and some might be hard to get into. Restrooms are nice with running water, flush toilets. There is a camp store. The sand dunes are really close.

Campground is perfect location for dune access. Most sites are parallel to the road, often with table/fire pit access on driver side of vehicle since road is one way. Sites can be severe slope and its difficult to determine conditions on the website. I would stay again because of location to dunes.
@DavidM725 · Camped on Oct 11, 2021 at Campsite #65
The camp sites are well protected from wind by numerous trees. There is also decent shade. One downside is that many of the sites don't have flat parking areas, so if you are sleeping in a camper or van you will want to have levelers of some sort. Sites don't have water, but you can fill jugs near the restrooms.

A huge plus is that many sites have stellar views of the dunes and surrounding mountains. We were blessed with amazing light at sunrise and sunset. This campground could be a nature photographers paradise.

Trees were all trimmed so the road was not as tight for my pull trailer. Walking the dunes was awesome, we really enjoyed sand boarding.

beautiful place and very nice site. Only recommendation would be to let people know that our site in particular was quite off camber making for more difficult leveling of the small trailer we towed. thanks for all the work. brian

It was a nice campground, the rest rooms were very clean and some spots had good views. Our site was very unlevel side to side so it made it difficult to level our trailer. Most sites did not appear long enough to accommodate mid-sized trailers. We were very surprised so see that the camp store was selling firewood and the rangers were allowing campfires, despite a state-wide fire ban. I guess since it was a National Park, they were exempt but we weren't sure about that.

Very, very noisy. Campers next to us stayed up past 1:00 AM. Our children were very upset. Also, their dog kept coming thru our site and they left the dogs unattended during the day tied near their tent. We will NOT go back.
