We camp in this campground every April and October. Often camp hosts are not available these months so there is little recourse for problems. We are tent campers and had a lovely first night. However, on the second night a man in a large SUV arrived at 8pm. He shined his headlights into our campsite for quite a while and then ran his vehicle engine the entire night. It was loud and obnoxious. We were not comfortable approaching him to ask that he turn off his vehicle. The vehicle departed at 6am. I asked a ranger for advise the next day and she told me she advised against approaching another camper in that situation and also that he wasnt violating campground policy which covers quiet time for generators but not for vehicle motors running. Also, it is not an emergency situation for contacting authorities.

We chose two campsites in loop 2, on the outer edge. We had the dunes and the mountains to our right, unobstructed by other campsites. The bathrooms were nearby. Tip: you need your own soap and towels as they are not provided. (TP is, by the way.) We had the misfortune to attend during Red Flag Warning (high wind) so firewood was not sold at the Camp Store or at the Oasis store just outside the park. The river was just starting to run at the base of the dunes (early April). I would suggest coming in early May or later to get the full river experience.

What a beautiful place. We were there for the eclipse, the park rangers were incredible in being a host of information and a place to gather to watch. The camp host by far was the best we encountered this year. He also came around to let folks know about night planet viewing with telescopes on the evening of the 20th. We certainly enjoyed that! Loved the visitor center. We will definitely be back.

We had a nice spot with a great view and adequate space for our three tents. Our few complaints are the rude a-holes that showed up at 4:45 and set their car alarm off, along with the spacing between sites - its very tight. So we probably wont be back to this campground again.

The campground is great and our site had views of the dunes and snow-capped mountains. The NPS was doing a major refurbishment of all the campground bathrooms so they were all closed but porta potties were made available. Looks like they may be closed for some time. The Dunes Overlook trail is right out of the campground and you can also walk to Medano Creek and the dune field from the campground.

Beautiful views. Nice flat tent site. We had a lovely time here. A little bit of a bummer about the bathrooms being out of commission while they renovate, but the park had clean port-a-potties and hand washing stations.

The camping and the visit was great. The weather was cold and snowy, but that made it all the more beautiful. We took a short hike up to an overlook that was great then walked in the river on the sand and it was also wonderful.
