This is a well laid out campground that accommodates mixed tent and RV camping. There are plenty of water and flush toilet facilities available. No showers. The sites have a decent amount of shade among the ancient pinon and juniper trees. There are excellent views of the dunes, and many trails are accessible from this campground. Beware of sand (of course), and the winds can be chaotic and strong sometimes. Overall it was a very lovely experience.

Love this older campground, most sites are too small for the for the mobile home RVers. Less generators and all night party lights!Trail to the overlook that starts at the NE corner of the upper campground look is worth a sunrise or sunset hike.

Always a treat. Caught photos of the snow melting off the dunes. Great campground. The host was fabulous!

Great park. Great campground. Pretty good site. I did not notice the warning in the Site Details that its tight to back in to. With our F150 and a 19' trailer I really did need to go around the loop the wrong way. I didn't get caught on the way in, but the law enforcement ranger caught me on the way out. Just no way to pull out going the "right way". The wrong way is a straight shot. The campground wasn't busy. We had to use a lot of leveling blocks under the jack to get the trailer level. Maybe with a smaller tow vehicle I could have made the corner, but not the full size truck.

What a great place. Campsite are well spaced and private. Bathrooms are new and pleasant.

Amazing location, right in the heart of the park. Campground is geared towards tent campers, so rvs/trailers should bring leveling blocks and be prepared for no hook ups. The bathrooms were some of the nicest ones I have experienced in a national park. (Sadly no showers)Cant wait to go back!

Great campground with spectacular views of the dunes. Our site, #62, was incredibly off level, which we’ve found is typical for many NP campsites, but we made it work and enjoyed it. The only real downer was that the closest bathroom was shut down for construction and they had porta-potties there, which are always disgusting. Aside from that and the viscous, voracious mosquitoes, it was a great place and we wish we had stayed longer. A head net to keep mosquitoes and gnats out of your face would be a good investment.

Allowing people to arrive well after quiet hours (midnight) needs to be addressed. Inconsiderate campers rolling in late, clanging the bear box, talking loudly with kids running around is incredibly rude and inconsiderate. Close the campground at 10 pm and require late arrivals to wait until morning in the overflow area. Some sites also had more than 2 vehicles and partially blocked the road. The park service needs to do a better job in educating all of the folks new to camping on campground etiquette. This is a growing problem at all national parks including the Great Smoky Mountains NP by us. Enforce the rules!

Beautiful place! Restrooms have been redone and are kept very clean. Great place to relax and hike.

Great Sand Dunes National Park is great--but site 62 wasn't. Backing into the site with our 21' trailer was nearly impossible due to a more than 90 degree turn required and a very narrow loop road at that point. In addition, the site is much more sloped than I had realized. making levelling the trailer difficult. While we love the park, I would strongly recommend against site 62 for anything but tent camping.

Nice clean campground with great views of the dunes. Restrooms had flushing toilets and a large outdoor sink for filling water and washing hands, gear, dishes. Site #62 was huge, spacious, and felt remote from other sites. It had minimal shade and protection from the wind. The wind will get sand everywhere in your rig/gear. Check the weather before you go. Cant predict it six months when you reserve though. Doubt wed return to camp here anytime soon because of the wind and sand in our rig. Saw a family of deer walk through our site. That was cool.

Excellent camping area! Beautiful sight of the Sand Dunes and the mountains. Camp store had lots of things I used & needed. Camp site was big and I was able to have my 2 tents up no problem. Highly recommend! I even got to see deer walking through!

Fire ring was too close to front of pad where you park an rv/trailer making it unusable if you do wood burning campfires. We use a propane gas fire ring so no big deal. The location of our site was fantastic. Good views and access to trails close by. Lots of flush toilets. We enjoyed the Sand Dunes overlook trail the most. The trail from the camp site to the Dunes to the Visitor Center and back was a good long hike. This was a we'll maintained park.

Sites are 20ft apart. Too close. No privacy. Mostly dirt. Very little gravel, bad for tents. Cacti are EVERYWHERE, not good for dogs. Camp store keeps strange, inconvenient hours.
