Beautiful little campground in the national park. Quiet and well maintained. Sites are on the small size and leveling can be a challenge but you cant beat the location

We will be back! Very nice campground. Close to the dunes and hiking trails.

The layout of the campground is great. Not a lot of room for big rigs, so very huge generators if any. Lots of shade opportunities no matter what aspect. Caution, theres wind every evening off the mountains. But it blew the mosquitoes away. But sometimes also too strong to have a campfire. The reservation system left something to be desired however. We had two campsites but only really needed one once we got there. I tried to release the one I had. But, no one could help me at the visitor center because its booked through Recreation.gov. There was no Wi-Fi so I couldnt , get on the Internet to change the reservation. The camp Ground Host couldnt help either. It worked out in the end, since we found someone who could actually use the Extra campsite. Another issue with the reservation system I think is that there were lots of empty campsites that were marked reserved. Not sure how to solve that, but even a slight increase in the fee or perhaps of forfeiture after a certain time like nine or 10 oclock at night. All in all a fun visit.

I picked up a last minute cancellation and got a good site that I was very happy with.

We had a pull thru spot for our 24ft RV, which looked like it was one of the few sites that had a shaded parking area. It was a little tight and we had better luck backing in, but the site was nice and had a little view of the dunes. Overall a great campground! It was a little longer walk to the dunes than expected from the campground, but still beats fighting the day use crowds. It was windy one night and raining the next, so no campfires for us . The camp host was nice, and there was a small store in the campground for basic supplies (and ice cream!) with a very nice woman running it. Also, the ranger program was fun with Ranger Patrick playing his guitar. We would stay here again! (Also, expect to be removing sand from every crack and crevice once you get home!)

We enjoyed our stay. Our site had some shade which was pleasant. Of course, camping in the park was extremely convenient to the Dunes!

Staying at the Great Sand Dunes Pinon Flats Campground was an awesome experience. Site #60 is positioned very well close to the restroom but not too close and with lots of privacy. Whether you have a small trailer or larger RV it is advised to back in despite the site being listed as a pull-through. Dogs are welcomed but not everywhere so be aware. Hiking within the park was a blast, visiting Zapata Falls was interesting and driving in around Alamosa was an adventure. The national park is magnificent. I will return at a time when Medano Creek is flowing strong. Happy camping!

The campground is great! So close to the sand dunes. Luckily we picked one large enough for our camper and truck. Most of the sites would be really small for both to fit good. We really enjoyed our stay!

We had an amazing time! The trails are well-marked, the campsite (#60) was beautiful and just what we wanted! We also appreciated the site having bear boxes and the wash station at the bathroom, as we didn't have problems with chipmunks or blue jays or the usual scavengers that you always see at campgrounds. Good ideas! Every park should do what you're doing at Pinon Flats. Also: we brought a kite to fly at the Dunes and that was great fun! Be sure, however, if you bring a kite that it's rated for high winds -- we bought ours in Oregon to fly at the ocean, which meant it was perfect for the winds at the Dunes. We can't wait to come back; we scouted out other campsites that we want to try for our next visit.

This was overall an excellent experience- come prepared though, it is a 40+ minute drive into town to get any supplies unless you want to spend a lot of money at the convenience store near the campground. Also, the firewood is obscenely expensive at the campground.

What a stunning camp ground! Our space was large, super clean, every site is close to a bathroom. The little store was great. We were fortunate to have quiet neighbors but the sites were pretty spaced out in general.
