Great spot, we fit two tents (one 4 and one 6 person) plus a canopy tent. Parking for two cars.

The pion trees are amazing on loop 2 and provide lots of shade, which is one of my priorities when camping in warm weather. Walking around the loop provides wonderful views. Bathrooms easy to access. Loop 1 has fewer trees/less shade but more open view of the dunes. A lovely spot! Wish I could have stayed longer.

Really beautiful campground. View of the dunes, easy parking, close bathrooms that were clean and had lights. Had a lovely time here.

Very nice and well taken care of campground. We could only stay one of the two nights that we reserved because it was too cold for the younger kids, but I have told everyone that is the place to go to enjoy the dunes and the area! Will definitely be back!

Stayed in Loop 2 and will return in shoulder seasons

Pros:
--Close to trailheads 1) Dune hike trail cuts thru loops to front of dunes 2) Dune hike trail head for trail into dunes runs along primitive road was accessible in our loop 3) Mosca Pass TH is accessible by side trail but farther from the loops
--Parking for backcountry in and out of the CG
--Mosca Pass is a quick easy hike 6 mi RT and worth the diversity of landscapes--morning hike back before lunch was ideal; nice surprise!
--Boarding or sledding on the dunes is an options; fun for kids; rental shop up the road or bring your own
--Partial opening of primitive road to Creek was a fun drive to observe the runoff forming the creek (4W access only)
--Plenty of bathrooms and dishwashing facilities in the loops; AND bathrooms were heated (bonus!)
--Sites overlook the dunes but are exposed; if that's what you want and you're tenting, secure your tents extra

Cons:
--Generators--General comment to all NP CG--ban generators for the air and noise pollution to better regulate usage in the parks let them boondock or get private RV parks. Specifically we were surrounded by people using generators esp. those who didn't observe the time limit and one RV ignored the tent only designation on a site which made it worse. I had picked a site from reservation system that was a cluster of tent sites to avoid RVs; so much for that.

--Sites are close and tents sites are too close to RV sites; I think barring banning generators, tent loops and RV loops should be far apart (like Yellowstone)

--Lose the value of the ranger programs since distancing, vaccines, masks are enough; seems exploitative on the part of the national parks and rangers not to open the programs. Probably an unpopular comment but enough is enough coming from a life science/clinical background.

--Primitive road wasn't fully open; wish they would let people use their own judgement or have more gating to only close off TRULY impassable sections.
