The campground is an oasis in the desert, literally. Campsites are nicely done. The bathrooms were closed for remodeling, however, there were ample port a potties around the campground and were kept very clean. Hand washing stations, too. The campground has privacy between campsites and the piñon trees give it character. Campers were very friendly and respectful of other campers. Proximity to the sand dunes was great! We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day stay!

My husband and I only stayed here for one night but we were very pleased with the site. It was slightly small for parking the trailer but otherwise very clean. It had a locked place to store our food in case of animals, and large clean bathrooms conveniently located throughout the campsite. They also had a wonderful little shop right before entering the camp with a large variety of necessities! Great place and will definitely stay again.

Drove to parking on Medano Cr Rd then hiked the road further up. This was a great way to see the Dunes up close without crossing the water this spring.

Sand Dunnes was so fun to visit (carried cardboard box and slide down few of the sand dunn sides - walking up Sand Dunns requires good physical health due to the higher altitudes) but was worth the climb for the views once you got to the tops. Campsites we're a bit small for trailers - our is 20' long and we just made it with our truck parked directly to the side of trailer. Rangers and team are friendly and bathrooms were also larger and cleaner than expected. We had horrible winds and was very cold during middle of April '21, but once winds went away, it was very nice. Only one draw back to this campsite was all the small CACTUS around each of our campsites (we all had to be very careful with our dogs and small kids) as these small cactus was everywhere...this would be the major reason we would not go back (too many small low ground cactus everywhere).
