We loved site 47 at Pinon Flats. There was space for 2 tents and seemed larger than other sites at the campground. This site was also spaced apart from other campsites, which was really nice and provided for a little bit more privacy. Deer would come around the brush area surrounding the site, which was really neat. We were in close walking proximity to the bathrooms, so that was really nice too. The bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. There was enough toilet paper and soap for us to use when there. The campground store was just around the corner from the site, so we could walk over to pick up firewood, tinder and ice. It's about a mile walk from the site to the base of the sand dunes, so we opted to drive. This site got some afternoon shade, but not much for morning/afternoon.

Pinon Flats campground has wonderful facilities with easy access to the gigantic sand dunes! The views from our campsite were great! My wife and I would definitely stay there again!

My first visit to a National Park campground since I was a child so I wasn't sure what to expect. The sites are roomy and generally people were polite and quiet. Bathrooms clean with flush toilets. The kids, however, were annoying. Seems parents just let them run around anywhere screaming, talking loudly and riding their bikes and scooters everywhere without boundaries. Incredibly disrespectful and rude in our opinion. The campground was wonderful but the kids were brats.

Beautiful campground-sites were as advertised. Grounds and bathrooms were clean and well kept. Loved the trail access direct from campsite to the dunes.

Campsite #47 is a very good site at Pinon Flats Campground. The drivethrough parking spot has room for one vehicle---plenty of room for my campervan and just enough room to unroll my van's awning. There is a decent amount of separation between campsite #47 and neighboring sites. In fact there are NO sites behind campsite #47, which is unusual for most sites at Pinon Flats. Partial views of the sand dunes, an easy walk via the Dunes Trail to the most easily-accessed hikes onto the main sand dunes, or a 1.2 mile pleasant hike through the forest via the Dunes Overlook trail to a nice overview of the dunes behind the first high ridge.I was travelling with my well-behaved Australian Shepherd dog, and she the loved hikes on the dunes and on the Dunes Overlook trail. I brought Ruffwear booties to protect her paws from Prickly Cacti that are growing everywhere in the grasslands, but didn't end up using the booties because I was careful she did not venture off the sandy trails. And the sand dunes in April were not yet hot and a danger to dog paws. The night sky viewing is terrific at this park and the campground during this early spring season was quiet each night. Friendly, helpful ranger stopped by the campsite each morning.

This campground is just as lovely as it looks in the pictures. There are a few spots that give you an uninhibited view of the dunes, while others are tucked away by the mountain hills. Either way, you cant really go wrong in this campground. Flush toilets, sinks (bring soap), and two trails that lead directly to the dunes or to the dunes overlook, both of which are dog friendly.

We had a great time at this camp ground! It was our first time visiting the Great Sand Dunes and we loved being able to view the dunes from our campsite. Getting up to the sand dunes early worked out best due to the high winds later in the morning.

WE have a 23 ft fifth wheel. We used online reservation services. No indications of size of each camp site. Some sites are large enough for trailers most are better suited for tents.

Great campground close to the dunes. Contrary to listing there is potable water near the dump station so the only thing you really must prepare for is how to have battery/generator on site (if you need it). Poor cell service but the point is the national park and not the internet.

Very nice CG with beautiful scenery. Running water in bathrooms was appreciated. However, several of the sites are somewhat difficult to back into, particularly if you try to travel in the one way direction that is suggested.

It was too crowded. There are too many campsites crammed into one campground.

As long as your travel trailer or RV is on the smaller side you will have plenty of room. Beautiful views of the dunes!

Very beautiful and peaceful when we were there. Lots of wildlife and nature visible from the campsites. A little bit of highway noise but not bad at all considering how close it actually is to the highway. Get there early for a good spot! A couple downfalls are no campfire which is one of the best parts of camping and need better signage for the trails but everything else made up for it.
