The campground, view, area, bathrooms, etc. were all great. There were just so many mosquitos! I have never seen so many mosquitos together in one place, in my life!

Ive been camping at the Dunes for more than 60 years. Its a special place! The newly paved roads and beautiful remodeled visitor center were pleasant surprises.

Great location and campsite! They have a bear vault at each site which is super helpful. However, be aware that the sites are super close to each other. Maybe it feels closer since there's not a lot of tree cover. But we had nice neighbors, so it wasn't a terrible experience at all.

We travel in a 24 ft rv. While the campground was clean and the camp host was helpful we had great difficulty finding a site that we could get somewhat level. The sites are sited so that in order to view the Sand Dunes you overlook other campers. Luckily, the campground was not full and we were able to move to a location that we could get somewhat level. This campground seems to be more amenable for tent camping.

The sites are pretty close together, just FYI. Also, there's not a ton of shade given that this is a desert! There were lots of little flies too, just bring bug spray and be prepared! The rest of the campsite is great - bathrooms are really nice! - and the little camp store is wonderful to have. Would definitely stay here again!

The bathrooms at the camp site did not have any soap or ability to dry your hands. This would have been helpful to avoid spreading germs. The park gift shop was a very unfriendly place. Signage outside the gift shop required visitors to wear masks regardless of any vaccination status and you were asked to spend only 10 minutes inside. The staff takes a daily lunch hour and the gift shop is closed during that time. Can't staff alternate their lunch times so the gift shop could remain open for visitors who have limited timed to spend at this awesome National Park that cost 25.00/car to enter. You can do better.

Beautiful location. Well maintained.

Would be nice if there were more level sites.

We enjoyed our stay at Pinon Flats Campground in Great Sand Dunes National Park. It was an early spring (for Colorado) trip and you take your chances as far as weather goes. It was incredibly windy but we were fortunate enough to be in a travel trailer. Winds weren't as bad earlier in the day so we still managed to enjoy the dunes, a little spring runoff water for the doggos, and the Monteville Nature trail. One day was nice enough to complete the Mosca Pass trail and it was amazing. Forests, rock formations, meadows - this one had it all. Round trip with plenty of stops on the way up for this older lady took about 5 hours and it was worth every minute of it. All these activities are within walking/hiking distance of the campground, so the location is outstanding. We took a side trip out to Zapata Falls and that easy, half mile trail led to a beautiful - while still frozen for the most part - waterfall. I can't recommend the campground, Park, and surrounding area enough. Just be prepared for the weather, winds (how do you think the sand got there, lol) and be flexible with your days and you should love it, too!

I loved the campsite!! Very easy to get to and find your spot, and almost all the spots had a great view of the beautiful mountains and sand dunes that make up the park. Absolutely wonderful :)
