What a great campground! Fabulous views of the Sand Dunes, the camp hosts were super friendly, and the bathroom was immaculate. This is the place to stay when visiting this park. We were able to rise early and hike up to the top of the Dunes before it got too toasty (July visit). So convenient to have our campsite (we were in a tent) so close; there was even a trail directly connecting the campground and the Dunes. Highly recommend.

We had such a lovely stay at Pion Flats! It was both affordable and gave us front-row seats to the incredible Great Sand Dunes. The bathrooms were nice and clean and our neighbors were all lovely. Highly recommend this spot to any adventurer or weary traveler.

The whole park is pretty sandy (and windy); but Pion Flats was a pleasant campground with good views and trail access, with fairly modern restrooms.

Great spot! Stay on loop 1 for views, loop 2 for more protected sites. Bathrooms were spotless. Fun weekend all around!

This site has a great view of the dunes and reasonable separation from neighbors. The dunes were very fun to climb around on and the well kept bathroom with running water felt luxurious and made it easier with kids.Someone did pull into an empty site in the middle of the night and idled their car for seemingly hours, and there were some annoying off leash dogs on the dunes, but that seems mostly beyond the park's control.

We loved our campsite. Although it was small it was perfectly situated for our needs. Flushing toilets, ample drinking water, and bear safe trash were all easily accessible. We hiked about a half mile directly from the campsite to the dunes and enjoyed an evening fairly alone in the water trickle and on the closer dunes. Only complain was the mosquitoes were swarming constantly and that was pretty miserable. We spend the rest of our vacation nursing itchy bites from day 1.

Great family camping experience, particularly for younger children.

Loved the campsite we stayed at. Had a great view of the dunes. Big enough camping site for 2 chairs, 4person tent and picnic blanket. Bathroom were right behind campsite, though when we were there they were being renovated. There were porta potty’s in front of the bathroom. Only downside was that it was extremely windy. So we couldn’t enjoy the view as much as we’d like too. Though weather isn’t something you can control just check time of year. Unless you enjoy cold, windy weather or have a camper, I would suggest not camping in May. The stars were absolutely amazing! Though it got down to 19 degrees at night which maybe it nearly impossible to enjoy as I was too cold. Would definitely return in the summer months.

We LOVED this campground! And we think we had the best site in the whole park!! We watched the sunset and sunrise over the dunes. Many people were walking over to the viewing point in front of our site because it was the best view in the park. There was also a shortcut to the bathrooms which was very convenient. Amazing experience!

The place was gorgeous and had a wonderful time but had to leave early due to a super storm moving in. Hope to return one day! Thanks!

The campground overall is quite good. My reserved campsite was marked with my name when I arrived and the views of the dunes in the morning, if you take care when selecting your site, are the best one can hope to get . It is quite easy to reach the restrooms from most of the tent campsites.Make sure you come fully prepared. The campground store is not open very often and it is approximately 35-40 minutes to the closest town. This is not meant as a complaint. I just would have found it helpful if I knew this information beforehand and am trying to help others. There was no soap, paper towels, nor trashcans, in the mens restroom and there was no indication that they ever were placed in there. I understand that people are camping, but I tend to consider that a necessity when touching raw foods and using the restroom. The website is clear that there are no showers in the facilities, but there are some close by. I mention this so that others can be more well prepared and pack/ plan accordingly.

Great campground. If you can, try and get a spot by the dunes. Nothing like it.

Beautiful area and very peaceful even at capacity. Many birds not seen at all in Northern Colorado and great proximity to the dunes. Nice well maintained facilities
