I know to expect extra noise at NPS campgrounds but my stay here was a bit more than normal. Lots of shouting, vehicle noise, etc. after 10pm. This would benefit from on-site staff who will enforce quiet hours rules. Im also in support of quiet hours starting at 9pm since I wake up early to do things in the outdoors when Im staying somewhere like this. Apart from that, availability of locked food/smellies storage was great and bathrooms were clean/nice.

For those of us who travel and are not sure where we will spend the evening, it would be nice to have a couple of campsites that are first come first served. It would also be nice to have a viable internet connection when one arrives at a Federal site so we can make the reservation once we are there. The campground host said it is a common problem of not being able to connect with the internet depending on the weather. I know that's a risk we take by not scheduling our trip day by day, but some parks or forests are worth spending more time at once you get there and see the beauty of the area. My life was always on a schedule when I worked, but once I retired it is nice to have some flexibility when you travel and decide to spend more time. I know I am old fashioned, but it puts more fun in the trip when there is flexibility.

The campsites had plenty of space so you did not feel like you were right next to your neighbor.

The campsite we were at had zero shade and it made for a super uncomfortable visit. It would be helpful if there were more and/or better photos of each campsite, but make sure to take a close look at the ones that are there before booking.

The bathrooms at this campground were warm and perfectly clean. The views of the sunset were breathtaking. The incredible view of the night sky made sleeping without our tent's rainfly worth it. The other campers were chill and quiet, and the bear lockers were super convenient. An excellent camping experience we look forward to repeating!

Beautiful and unique campground. It was well maintained. Great campground hosts. Wonderful ice cream at the cute little store! The dunes were a great experience after a night of rain.
This was such an amazing experience. The tent site leads to a short trail to the sanddunes. We were able to make multiple trip at will. I went with my 20 and 14 year old daughters and we all had so much fun.
We had campsite #7 on Loop 1. It’s right across from the bathrooms and the trail to the dunes, so very busy. Our space was very difficult to park our 15’ pull-behind pop up trailer-would recommend Loop 2 or lower Loop 1 for trailers. Some of the sites are a tight squeeze. Also, about 1/3 of the campsites were never occupied, even though the campground was “full” both nights. Frustrating for all those who couldn’t get a spot. Beautiful time of the year (late May) to visit Sand Dunes, and all the staff are very friendly and helpful.

I camped here with my kids for 1 night in August. The evening started fine. There was a crazy storm with high winds headed our way, so we had lots of friendly camper neighbors that helped set up our tent so it wouldn't blow away. However, that evening, there was a group of campers playing music and talking late into the night. Since it was raining, I yelled from my tent around 11pm asking them to turn the music off. My kids and I were wide awake from the noise. Without a word, they turned the music down but not off and continued to talk and party outside their tent. I searched for a phone number online or some way to contact a park ranger, but only got voicemail. No park rangers came through the campground all evening. Finally at 1am, I heard another camper neighbor get out of their tent and ask the noisy campers to shut it down .. his kids were apparently still wide awake as well. The campsites are so ridiculously close together, you'd think people would be a little more courteous at a campground full of families with young kids. And where were the park rangers?!?! Worst camping experience!

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
