I camped with my 2 sons. We enjoyed our site, climbed the dunes, and did the beautiful hikes around the area.

The site was very nice, except for the steps to get to it, I really needed a flat space so next time I will check the pictures and the fine print better. The park is great, very clean, and even with a full campground it was very quiet in the evenings, except for a few of the dogs. The rangers were very helpful and pleasant which made the entire stay more enjoyable. Will try to return in the future, but it is one of those parks you have to want to go to if you are not local because it is a little out of way.

This is an awesome camp site, up on a hill to one side of the Great Sand Dunes. I like the views, and the fact that I can hike up the dunes right from my tent.

The campground is located at very convenient location in the park, the campsite are small but it perfect for 8 people. Many campsites have narrow driveway for parking cars. The restrooms are modern and clean but don't have shower. There is a separate sink to wash utensils. Most of the campsites have view of the sand dunes. The campsites are pretty close to each other so privacy might be a concern for some. The bear boxes are big enough to hold lots of items. The camp store provided firewood and few essential things just in case you forget to bring it. The dunes trail is accessible from the campground and takes you directly to the Dunes. Few campsites don't have shade.

Best night sky

I am sure seasonally this may vary, but October turned out perfect! The grounds are excellently maintained, the staff are friendly! The other campers were respectful and not wild making it ideal when traveling with kids. The sites are close to the dunes allowing for a nice walk. Good experience all around!

Great stay! Definitely busy on a Sunday night, but we were able to get some good night sky photos still.

Really great views of the dunes and the mountains. Ample space at the site too!
