Our camping spot had an awesome view of the dunes, the toilets were clean, and there was water available. Lots of wildlife in yhe early morning. The only downside was that the campground was packed and there was a group of teenagers partying untill very late in the spot next to us. Also, I was never able to catch the camp shop open (tried for 2 days at several times)... so, don't depend on it!

We had a pretty good trip considering a few things we were dealing with. The views were amazing, the campground was very neat and nice and the bathrooms were spotless, clean and new. The host and the gentleman at the camp store were very friendly and courteous. Noise and exposure were the biggest problems here. Campsites are extremely close to each other, no privacy at all. The campground was very loud - after 7pm. I'd say this is probably due to inconsiderate people and alcohol, or both. Both nights there were multiple parties being loud hours after the supposed curfew. All could have been avoided if the curfew was actually enforced. Sun/weather exposure here is very high, there is little shade, some sites have no shade at all. Be prepared.

This is a beautiful park. The site was pretty level and large. The shower could have been cleaner. The water was warm though.

The campsite had a Great vista/view.the campsite was nicely paved, clean and well maintained. The bathrooms ( especially those in the campsite)were clean, well maintained .We enjoyed and learned from the hands on afternoon ranger lecture. The sunrise and sunset and night sky was memorable

The campfire smoke from so many campsites required us to close all the windows in our camper. We both have respiratory issues and smoke at high elevations is very challenging for us to breathe. Given the high potential for wildfires starting from campfires, I would suggest that the park service ban all campfires.

Probably the cleanest National Park I've been to. Rangers were very friendly and helpful. Restrooms were being renovated while I was there, with one being finished just in time for me to use before I left. The renovation was more than I would expect at a National Park and I hope future visitors will respect the exceptional finishes.

Creek was running so beautifully and I woke up with the dusting of snow on the dunes the next morning.

Wonderful campground with beautiful views of the dunes.

My only real complaint is the same as most national park campsites. They are usually rather crowded together. That said the campsite was well maintained and the facilities were easy to access and clean. The campground is within walking distance of the dunes, but If you feel the need to be closer the parking lots are close by as well. All in all the experience was very good.

My experience camping in the Pinyon Flats Campground was excellent, I was for one night for photography field trip I wish could have more nights available to enjoy the scenery of the Sand Dunes National Park. Booking the camping site was easy and the view of the sand dunes was awesome and walking distance.

Sites too small and campground very crowded. Unable to fit 23 ft trailer in reserved site. Gave up after 2 tries and went to campground in Alamosa. Campground poorly designed and too far from Dunes.

Even though there were many empty sites (reserved but no one showed up) the noise from all of the generators was terrible. We live in Pagosa Springs, so we visited Sand Dunes many times over the years and doubt we will return. I was surprised how many campers ran their generators all day long.

This campground isn't for those desiring privacy, but it was the best possible option for one night to see the sand dunes. Sites are very close together and many lack shade. However, flushing toilets are available and you won't find another place closer to the dunes and Medano Creek.

I liked the layout of the campground, even though sites were close, the pinon trees created enough barrier to feel we had our own little space. Neighbors were very nice. The dunes of course were spectaculat, but hike in the morning to avoid afternoon winds. Beautiful snow capped peaks when we were there. Go to Sand Dunes Swimming Pool afterwards for a great soak.

We got a good view of the SandDunes and the mountain. Phone service was there mostly, but the camp site was really close to each other. The sand dunes was 10 mins driving wise. The Zapatas Falls was 40 mins driving wise. The Great oasis store, where you can rent the board wasn't too much further from the campsite. Alamosa was 30 min driving wise. I would recommend this place. It does get really cold at night in October, so be sure to bring extra blankets to keep yourself warm. The moonlight at night was a great view!

This was my first trip to the Dunes and it was awesome. I have a small 20 trailer and it was a bit tight getting into and out of my spot, but I did. My camp sight was great and gave me great views. Theres tons to do in this area. Our group did some 4wd trails with Medano pass and We also Hiked up to Zapata Falls and above too. We already booked to go back next month. Cant wait.

I arrived after dark and a very helpful gentleman led me to my site. I enjoyed my one night stay on a cross country trip. Enjoyed the Sand Dunes in the morning before leaving.
