The Wheeler Peak campground appears recently renovated with fresh asphalt roads and concrete steps to picnic tables on hardscape. The restrooms were clean and nice. There was no potable water this summer at only the top campground so plan accordingly. We had a great hike to summit of Wheeler Peak, Don the camp host was effective and great. It's not over touristed for a National Park and the caves are pretty cool too. No National Park Pass required

I stayed at my favorite site and it seems some improvements were made. However the toilet near site #27 although walls were painted and it looks spotless but the odor is awful. Really terrible.

Freshly renovated sites at Wheeler Peak make this campground particularly special! NPS did a great job.

Fantastic campground: sites are spread apart with lots of shade and a huge meadow running through the campground. Upgrades and scenery make this a great experience.

The RESERVATION PROCESS is a MESS! BUT, the campground itself is absolutely beautiful. There is not "bad spot" to camp, just some with shorter driveways than others for people with motor homes. But I LOVED that there is no electricity or water available ( bring your own!!) and that quiet time is 8pm to 8am. Each site is unique as well as beautiful. The hiking trails are VERY accessible and stunningly gorgeous. Take your time to absorb the beauty surrounding you as well as the fact that you are hiking at 10,000 feet plus elevation!! I strongly recommend it for outdoor enthusiasts! However, the reservation process needs an overhaul! Supposedly ALL of the sites ALL 3 nights I was there were reserved. I would estimate about half of the sites were actually used each night. If people canceled or no showed, there was no way to know accept to drive the steep, curving road several miles down to the Lehman Caves Visitor center - which closes at 6pm!! Ridiculous process. Recreation.gov can and should do better!!!

This was the nicest campground Ive ever stayed at (having been to dozens of national park and private campgrounds over the past couple years). The site had paved out areas for the picnic bench and fire ring, fresh mulch down on the tent area and a beautiful meadow where deer graze in the middle of the campground. Sunset and night sky views are unmatched. If you can deal with the higher altitude, the site is perfect!

This is a lovely campsite which has a meadow and aspen stand adjacent. Partial views of Wheeler Peak. Beware that if you are tent camping, the areas are not completely flat. There was a LOT of rain during my stay, and the bottom on my tent ended up in a bit of a bowl, which soaked through the floor. When I was there, there was a fun "shelter" built from the branches of a tree felled just next to the campsite. Cool hideout for kids.

Wonderful campground! We have a 18' trailer and had no problem going up the hill to Wheeler Peak (says trailers up to 24' can be taken up the mountain). No water available up there -- have to get it at the lower campgrounds or visitor's center first. But the campground was super nice and it was worth the long drive up. From the campground you can walk to the Bristlecone Pine trail -- well worth the hike. I did get a bit of altitude sickness as it's pretty high up! It was nice and cool there, even when it was quite warm down the hill.
