Our stay at Wheeler was excellent! The campsites are each unique and perfect! The facilities are immaculate! The visitors center suggested the perfect itinerary which included the ranger led astronomy night sky experience in the amphitheater which was well led and informative!

Beautiful, clean, well spaced csmpsites. Great not having big rigs or noisy generators. Great Basin is beautiful with great hiking. Bring plenty of warm clothes and enjoy.

This may be one of my favorite campgrounds that I have had the pleasure to stay in. Quiet, clean, freshly renovated, and surrounded by aspens, meadows, streams, mountain views. Site 37 is such a gem. Some sites have shade and streams going through them, some have open views of the mountains. We felt like site 37 was a one site that boasts all of the above - a stream and shaded areas to hang out, our own little footbridge across the stream, a small open meadow with mountain views, a forested backyard where deers visited every morning. We stayed during a full moon, but I imagine the night sky from the site would otherwise be spectacular. Conditions werent great during our stay actually. The lack of rain this year meant that the stream was but a trickle. And during our first two days, the winds were harrowing, with gusts upwards of 40mi/hr. It finally settled down on our final day, which then brought out the giant flies in earnest. But thats just how things fall sometimes. We still loved the site and the campground. And I cant not mention the wonderful camp host. He visited every day to update and advise us about the wind and was seen making the rounds throughout the day. Never met a host quite so dedicated to his job!

Convenient location close to the trailhead! Such a cute site, has its own little bridge over the creek between car and site. Just far enough from the bathrooms.

Our experience at Wheeler Peak campground was great. Its the perfect location during summers heat. It is close to the hiking trails. But once again, several reserved campsites sat empty. I believe the Recreation.gov policies are at least partially to blame. It seems there is no penalty for not canceling and why would people because you lose most of your payment anyway. If people do cancel, the information is often not promptly relayed, so that someone else can use the site.Even our camp host who is a veteran of the Forest Service was unhappy with the system.

Lovely campground. Surprised there weren't designated tent pads. Site 37 has a bridge over the creek from the parking area to the site. Our site was on the deer migration path as we saw them several times per day. Sites are pretty spaced out and private. Close to several hiking trails.

Great campsite, lovely alpine mountain feel to it. The cuore for watching stars at night is great anywhere in the campground. Loved the little stream of water running through my site! Only drawback was the vault toilets and lack of running water.
