too far away. Friendly and attentive hosts at the site. However, fifty bucks for a basic campground is a bit steep, although we had a senior discount. The reservation system needs some fixing. A couple of sites could be retained for walk-ins. As it was. the day we checked in, there were five of the sites where no one showed up. The gov't still got their money though.
Similarly at Glacier NP, we drove through the campground there with about 80% of the sites empty and a reserved tag on each site. There was a large sign as you entered the campground stating that campsites were still available despite the reserved tags at each site, and to contact the posted phone number or recreation.gov. There was an estimated 25 minute wait to speak with someone and it wasn't possible to access recreation.gov on the iPad from that area, and no way to obtain a site while physically at the park. A ranger said there was nothing they could do. We wound up staying at a nearby campground close to the park entrance, which probably worked out better in the end as showers and wifi were available there. Most of the campsites at the Glacier NP Apgar campground most likely sat vacant that day, resulting in a loss of revenue for the gov't and its contractor. Great reservation system.
Joe was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the Tetons.
The campground was spotless, bathrooms were clean.
