I hate to brag too much as I dont want it even harder to book a spot. In fact, my only complaint is how hard it was to book a spot and I noticed there are short term rental companies booking RV spots so people can just drive up and stay. No wonder theyre hard to book! Lastly, I called what I thought was the colter bay ranger station as there was a man wandering around the campsite who appeared disheveled and wandering through other campsites. The ranger was quite rude and suggested I should have called sooner. Only, I did call but they were closed. Its likely the first time Ive ever had anything but positive to say about Colter Bay and GTNP staff, and this was my 12th time returning to the most beautiful place on earth.

If you're going to Yellowstone to see large animals (bears, wolves, bison, elk), the locatiopn is great. It's still a drive to Lamar Valley, but Hayden Valley is close, and Fishing Bridge and the area East of there is kinown for grizzlies (we saw a sow and cub). Staff was friendly and helpful at checkin. The campground is a nice, wooded setting, but the campsites are small and crowded without picnic tables or outdoor seating areas. There are breaks in the trees, so our Starlink was able to get a strong signal. No fire pits or wood fires of any kind allowed (although several people in the campgrounds had them going). And no bear boxes, so anything food related has to be kept inside RV or vehicle, including grills. Moving our pellet grill back and forth from the RV to the 4Runner was a hassle, whereas we could just put it in the bear box when we stayed at Grand Teton. We didn't use the showers or other amenities, so I can't comment on those.

I booked a site that said Standard Electric. It did not have electric. Which is tough for us because our refrigerator wont run on propane. We dont have an inverter so running the heat on propane depleted our house batteries because we cant run the generator over night. So we were very cold.
