Love the park and location but site 16 had terrible sewage smell the entire time we were there. It is not even that close to the latrines.

Camp hosts are so very kind and helpful. Always a great time in Ouray with such a great relaxing campground.

Great location to camp to access Ouray. One sort of gross thing that brought this down from 5 stars is that over the course of our 3-day stay, we constantly got whiffs of port-a-potty/sewage at our camp spot and within the campground.

No bear boxes. Very hot in the morning. Great location otherwise.

Amphitheatre Campground was the first place we camped on our honeymoon 50 years ago. So our return here the last week of August was part of our 50th celebration. The campground is outstanding for its location above Ouray, awesome surrounding scenery, and quiet. It nicely accommodates tents and trailers up to 22 feet. We got to soak in the overpowering amphitheatre mountain formation surrounding on the east side and the beautifully rugged San Juan peaks to the west. Overlooking the town of Ouray! Campground hosts are the best we have found in helpfulness, relating, and managing a campground. As far as activities there are a variety of excellent hikes right from the campgrounds! Must do's also include Box Canyon, Ouray Hot Springs, Yankee Boy Basin, and Durango Train if time. It delivers on its taglines as the "Switzerland of America" and the "Outdoor Recreation Capital of Colorado."

The location is beautiful. Ouray is a great place to visit. But, what made our visit the best was the campground host. They stopped by when we checked in to see if we needed anything. They even offered to loan us some leveling blocks for our motorhome. We were four wheeling with our jeeps and they would want to know how the experience was and gave us advice on where we might want to go to experience the best of Ouray four wheeling.
I have been staying at national forest campgrounds for the last 45 years and never had such a nice experience.

Enjoyed the campground very much. Location great for hiking & to town. Campground full every night, sites were clean. Only thing was the intense odor from the outhouse! And our site wasn't even close to the building!
