The campground is on the side of a steep hill with very narrow roads, tight turns and generally small sites. If you have a big motorhome or long trailer, this isnt a good choice for you. Its great, however, for tents, vans, campers and small trailers. We and some friends stayed here for five nights in early September while 4-wheeling the passes in our vintage Jeeps. We loved it. Despite a lot of turnover and being full every night, the campground was clean and quiet. Great views. Many nice sites. The camp hosts are awesome. They work hard and stay busy but do a great job keeping everything shipshape while being friendly and helpful. Hats off to them, they added a lot to our enjoyment while there. The only complaint from one of our friends was a noisy vent fan in a restroom near his campsite. It was a minor nighttime annoyance.

Steve the camp host is great. But he can't make the road any bigger or the curves less tight. RECREATION.GOV needs to post in BIG PRINT that access to most of the sites in Amphitheater is TIGHT. The views are spectacular in almost all directions, but if your TOTAL vehicle length is greater than 35', pay close attention to where the site is located and how the site is entered and exited. Campsite #6 shows it holds a 24' trailer...and it does. But we only had inches to spare making the turn in the loop at the bottom to get out.

What a beautiful campsite the host was so full of wonderful information. They were very welcoming. The sites were clean and beautiful bathrooms. Had lights! We will definitely be back.

The campground and campsite were great. Gorgeous scenery. It was chilly and rainy nearly the whole time I was there, but that's not the fault of the campground. If the weather had been better, it would have been an excellent vacation. The camp hosts were delightful and helpful. The water was very convenient, and the facilities were spotless. High marks, except for the weather!

Where this campsite is situated is just outstandingly stunning. Sites are flat, spacious and well spaced out from one another. All sites are in beautiful surrounds. Easy short drive to Ouray town for eating out or shopping needs. Facilities are basic (drop toilets, no showers), however they are kept very clean.

Very nice campground. Quiet, well-maintained and well-located. Most sites are fairly private and the restrooms are clean. The windy road up the hill from Ouray filters out excessively large recreational vehicles.

Such a beautiful spot! The camp host was so friendly and helpful with ideas of where to go and what to see. Our campsite was the best one in the whole campground, so we really lucked out! Bears did show up near us at another campsite , and the chipmunks got into our food so beware.

This campground is so unique! Close to town but secluded enough to feel remote. The trails that surround the campground are easily marked and varied for all types of hikes. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. The cleanliness of the toilets, group spaces and sites were a testament to their dedication to making Amphitheater Campground special.

The camp host, Steve was amazing! So very helpful and friendly. The campground itself was beautiful. It's a bit tight but once you're in your spot, the beauty and wildlife come to life. Really enjoyed our stay!

The campground was a fantastic place to stay. Although there are no showers, the restrooms were VERY clean and stocked with toilet paper. The campground host was very nice and helpful. The location is right off of Million Dollar Highway overlooking Ouray. We saw lots of wildlife but thankfully no bears!

We were greeted by our camp host, Dave, just as we arrived. He gave us detailed directions to find our campsite and was very helpful throughout our stay with suggestions for hikes and activities around the area. We felt welcomed and he was available for any questions we had. Our experience at Amphitheater campground couldnt have been better!

The hosts were amazing and the upkeep was top notch. I have never seen the hosts rake campsites between visitors. The hosts were also a wealth of knowledge and very present. The hosts did keep the pit toilets clean and placed airfreshner within, but because it is summer and many visitors, they did smell from time to time. My spot had amazing views and I would camp here again!

3 days 3 different sites due to being so crowded for July 4. Had a great time and the hosts help find me a site so we could stay on the 4th and watch the fireworks show.

We adore this campgrounds. Steve, the camp host, is friendly and welcoming. The bathrooms are primitive but clean. The views are stunning. There is so much to do around here-its a perfect family destination. And deer come through the campgrounds daily.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
