Sites were clean, great views, private feeling. Hiking trails from camp. Hosts (esp David and Nancy) were very friendly and accommodating. Only had reservation for one night and they found a ffs for next 3 nights. Ill be back!

The camp host, Steve was amazing! So very helpful and friendly. The campground itself was beautiful. It's a bit tight but once you're in your spot, the beauty and wildlife come to life. Really enjoyed our stay!

We love this campground - our family favorite! It has the best views, wildlife and camp hosts. Its right off the perimeter trail and close to town. We plan to come back every summer!!

The campground was a fantastic place to stay. Although there are no showers, the restrooms were VERY clean and stocked with toilet paper. The campground host was very nice and helpful. The location is right off of Million Dollar Highway overlooking Ouray. We saw lots of wildlife but thankfully no bears!

We were greeted by our camp host, Dave, just as we arrived. He gave us detailed directions to find our campsite and was very helpful throughout our stay with suggestions for hikes and activities around the area. We felt welcomed and he was available for any questions we had. Our experience at Amphitheater campground couldnt have been better!

David and his wife were lovely host.

The hosts were amazing and the upkeep was top notch. I have never seen the hosts rake campsites between visitors. The hosts were also a wealth of knowledge and very present. The hosts did keep the pit toilets clean and placed airfreshner within, but because it is summer and many visitors, they did smell from time to time. My spot had amazing views and I would camp here again!

Gorgeous camping site overseeing Box Canyon. The hosts are the most lovely and helpful people. Clean bathrooms.

3 days 3 different sites due to being so crowded for July 4. Had a great time and the hosts help find me a site so we could stay on the 4th and watch the fireworks show.

We adore this campgrounds. Steve, the camp host, is friendly and welcoming. The bathrooms are primitive but clean. The views are stunning. There is so much to do around here-its a perfect family destination. And deer come through the campgrounds daily.

Fantastic campground, vault toilets were clean, and campground hosts were amazing people! If you plan on camping in Ouray this is your spot!

Ray is a beautiful town and the campground is not too far out of town, but you feel very remote. The campground hosts are great. Beware if youre pulling a trailer that all of the sites are small. Ive been there twice now and it takes some fancy parking even with a short trailer. The bathrooms (vault toilets) are super clean. I did parts of the perimeter trail, its beautiful, but if youre not in shape, it would be very difficult. Parts of it are so steep they cut stairs into the trail for you.

Mixed bag. This is a great spot with easy access to town, trails and sulfur free hot springs. My site 15 had a sweet view of the mountains in the morning, and the red rock ampitheater at the back of the campground is beautiful.There was zero shade however, so it gets hot until evening. Many trees in the campground have died, so lack of shade is a growing problem at many sites.The pit toilet bathrooms except for one by the campground host are outdated and really smelly. The campground hosts are super friendly and clean the toilets often, and the sites are clean, but the weeds and dead branches are out of control. This is a great area, but the campground needs some love.

Steve the camp host is so friendly and helpful and wants you to have the best experience. The campsite is well maintained and has the best views of Ouray. Will be back!

Pit toilet fan rattled constantly, much worse than a generator running.
@DeborahR772108 · Camped on Jun 3, 2025 at Campsite #14
Very nice campground. Great location. Nice hike to and from hot springs which takes you past the waterfall and right past all the shops like Ouray Mountaineering. The campground hosts are very nice people and keep a clean campground.

Always enjoy staying at the amphitheater campground. Site 14 has stunning views. Clean and well kept. The only negative are the old and smelly pit toilets. They should have been replaced years ago.

Site 23 is right in the middle of the campground but still felt private, and very quiet. There are great views and hiking from the campground. Highly recommend Amphitheater Campground/ site 23 if you're in Ouray & looking to be close to the Million Dollar Highway. Our group can't wait to return.
@JanetD9735856 · Camped on Sep 10, 2024 at Campsite #17
Nice campground with very pit toilets. Road in campground is extremely narrow and has sharp curves. Its not for large motor homes or trailers. Sites not very level. Steve and Dave were excellent hosts.

Site 11 has fantastic views and good shade. Very limited camping areas in Ouray so its a challenge to book this campground. Beautiful area. The downside is the stench from the dilapidated vault toilets. They really should replace them.

This campground is always clean, outhouses are clean, the sites are always nicely groomed when we arrive, the area and views are stunning! The thing that makes it really great is the camp hosts, Steve and Lori Jonker and Dave and Nancy!! They are so friendly and super helpful all the time! Give them a raise!

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
