Big campsites, many fairly private. Beautiful scenery and access to lake.

Beautiful area. Camp fire pits are in bad shape and full of ashes and shallow so need to be shoveled out prior to use.

Not very convenient for tents, except from the few sites with tentpads. No water, pit-toilets. Nice surroundings though. Glad we canceled one night and stayed only one instead of two.

We were very disappointed to arrive at the camping site and find there was no drinking water available. The pump providing drinking water was not working and apparently had not been working for some time. We had to go from campsite to campsite "begging " for drinking water until one kind neighboring camper gave us some. We feel that advance notice of "No Drinking Water Available at SIte" would have been a great help because we could have filled up our water bottles before arriving.

Lake Irwin campground is in a beautiful setting. Our site #13 was quite private and next to the hand water pump, which was entertaining. The pump was difficult to prime and then the water came out fast and high off the ground. It took 2 people or someone with large containers and funnels. When we arrived another couple was all set up in our site with a fire going. We had made reservations 6 months previously. Evidently the camp host didn’t have the daily tags set out properly and the couple took the spot, no fault of their own. They graciously moved to a truly open site. The air was crisp and cool and thin at over 10,000 ft. The lake was a great place to use our blow up kayak and there were many day-use people with SUP and kayaks. The drive to Crested Butte was a bit of a trek on bumpy dirt roads, but it was worth it being able to check this beautiful town off our bucket list. We took the chair lift to the high point and hiked and scrambled to the top of Mt Crested Butte which had spectacular views. Explored some of the easy single track trails near town. Lots of good restaurants and cool shops.
