We love Island Lake campground! On our last visit we booked a double-site for a family tent camping getaway. We were surprised to see how small the tent pad was for a site that was advertised for a large group. Other than that, the campground is great. Lot's of wildlife, clean facilities, and walking distance to the Lake and the lake trail. Easy drive into Eckert or Delta for emergency supplies or ice cream. Fantastic views from the southern sites. Terrific shade in the inner and northern sites.

What a great place! One of the best campgrounds and hosts we've experienced in Colorado. If it weren't for the plethora of mosquitos (day and night), gnats and other flying insects, I would've rated five stars; however, that's to be expected this time of year when staying near lakes. Lots of wildflowers, deer and birds. The lakes were clean, within walking distance from the campground, with plenty of shoreline to call your own and many fish to share. Fly fisher people were catching rainbows on mosquitos (go figure) and spin casters caught a few on yellow PowerBait. Fish were not hitting lures (rooster tails, Panther Martins and Cast Masters got zero hits). They were rising all over in the morning and evening, as long as the winds weren't blowing.

The campground is well-forested and except for sites 32-35, which are on an exposed ridge overlooking one of the lakes, all sites have tree coverage. That helped when the temps rose into the 90s. We stayed at site 38 which is a double site. Although the tent pad was tight for two medium-sized tents, smaller tents shouldn't have any issue fitting in. Site 38 is right below 37. Fortunately, the occupants there were pleasant and respectful; in fact, all the people we encountered there were nice. Speaking of nice, you can't get better hosts than Jay and Connie. They were so helpful, friendly and always smiling and joking. They kept the restrooms immaculate. The potable water sources were near the restrooms, so there is no need to bring a ton with you; just bring receptacles.

Please note that the site map here shows sites sites 36 and 39 on the same side of the road as 37 and 38. They are in fact on the other side and are the closest to Island Lake on that end of the loop.
