We stayed in Tent site 01. It was nice, and relaxing. I like this campground overall. Such a great location that is incredibly special because you are so close to the Rim, but yet have many amenities. The pros: Large site, and not on the top of other sites. Close to the rim and Transept Trail. Close to the outhouse - no water there/ a composting outhouse, but clean. The campground was clean, and quiet, especially in the tents only area. The cons: not enough shade during the mid-day to afternoon/ I would select a shadier Tent site...but that was okay for us since we were hiking or exploring. The outhouse odor did waft into the campsite when the wind was blowing in that direction. The biggest issue was that bathroom and water spigot near the Tents only sites was closed. Not sure if it was due to a water shortage or if it was under repair. So we had to walk or drive to get water -- not a huge deal, but more inconvenience. At least there was water since the North Rim has limited water/springs and there may be a day that water will not be available at all for campers. If you want to go to the bathrooms with water, you had to walk a bit; and to the place to wash your dishes ( They ask for all campers to wash their dishes in the sink that is outside the wet bathrooms). This got a little tiresome, but hey, part of the camping experience. I don't think a lot of campers were washing their dishes in the designated area because of the inconvenience. We did, because we follow rules and respect the environment: sites should be kept as clean as possible not to attract animals/insects etc, but slightly annoyed that the us tent folks got the short end of the stick while the RV's and camper vans had the water closer to their areas.

It was very unfortunate to find out there were no showers available for the campsites.

The campground was clean, the staff was courteous, and fellow campers were respectful. I especially appreciated the shade offered by the many tall Ponderosa Pines.
